In the explosive tell-all interview, the Duchess of Sussex frequently blasted Palace staff, saying they “failed to protect her”
Meghan’s allegations have now been disputed by a former aide, according to reports.
The 39-year-old also claimed they were “not willing to tell the truth” to shield her and Prince Harry.
Jason Knauf said he “repeatedly” talked with Meghan’s estranged father Thomas Markle and approached media outlets personally to “object to intrusions into Mr Markle’s privacy”
Lawyers for the Crown say in a letter to the High Court that he led “extensive efforts” to preserve Meghan’s privacy and reputation, as well as the privacy of her parents when instructed by her.
“This included drafting a press statement in November 2016 condemning racist and sexist coverage of Ms Markle and other regular interventions to request privacy both for her and for her parents.”
According to the letter, Knauf was also able to offer guidance and assistance “with a view to protecting her father from media intrusion”
It cites a press release by Mr. Knauf in 2016 criticizing “racist and sexist coverage” of the royal wedding.
It was also said that the aide, who now works for Prince William and Kate Middleton, made “significant efforts over many months” to defend Thomas Markle.
This was done “in addition to the steps that were regularly taken to object to coverage of the Duchess herself, where this was perceived to be unfair or untrue” according to the documents.
Meghan told Oprah, “Only once we were married and everything started to worsen that I came to understand.”
“Not only was I not being protected but that they were willing to lie to protect other members of the family.
“They were not willing to tell the truth to protect myself and my husband,” she claimed.
Mr. Knauf was drawn into his former employer’s High Court dispute with the Mail On Sunday’s publisher.
Meghan, 39, had filed a lawsuit against Associated Newspapers Limited (ANL), which also publishes MailOnline, over a series of articles that included excerpts from a “personal and private” letter to Mr Markle, 76.
She alleged that the five articles, which were written in print and online in February 2019, misappropriated her personal details, violated her copyright, and violated the Data Protection Act.
Mr Knauf’s attorneys, Addleshaw Goddard, stated in a letter obtained by the PA news service that he “did not suggest any specific wording” and “did not draft, and has never claimed to have drafted, any parts of” the letter to Mr Markle.
Mr. Knauf was said to have advised Meghan to include her estranged father’s illness in the “deeply personal” letter, according to legal documents.
Prior to Harry and Meghan’s wedding in May 2018, Thomas Markle experienced a heart attack and was unable to attend.
Mr. Knauf is the palace aide who supposedly filed a bullying lawsuit in October 2018 to shield the Duchess’s aides from the Duchess’s harassment.
