The Cannes Film Festival is set to honor Hollywood legend Michael Douglas with the prestigious Palm Downer for his outstanding film career.

The 76th edition of the festival, taking place from May 16 to May 27, will see Douglas as the guest of honor.

However, this news didn’t sit well with Meghan Markle, who made an unsuccessful attempt to secure an invitation to the event.

Meghan Markle, known for her acting career before marrying into the British royal family, reached out to Michael Douglas upon learning about his upcoming honor.

Unfortunately for her, Douglas did something that left her fuming.

He posed for a photo with a standee of Queen Elizabeth II, captioned with “Our Best Wishes to Prince Harry and Meghan.”

This gesture was seen as support for the royal family, which enraged Markle due to her ongoing feud with them.

Douglas, having seen through the lies and scandals surrounding the Sussexes, decided not to entertain Markle’s request for an invitation to Cannes.

He even went as far as blocking her phone number, leaving the Duchess embarrassed and furious.

The event itself will commence with a tribute to Michael Douglas during the opening ceremony, followed by the screening of the opening film, “Jean DuBarry.”

Directed by and starring Maiwen alongside Johnny Depp, this biographical drama promises to captivate audiences.

Douglas, who has been in the movie industry since the mid-60s, had a slow start with minor roles in the early years.

However, he gained recognition in the 80s with films like “Fatal Attraction,” “War of the Roses,” and “Wall Street,” which earned him an Academy Award for Best Actor.

Although Douglas experienced a decline in his career during the early 2000s, his role as Hank Pym in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s “Ant-Man” series revitalized his status in Hollywood.

The most recent installment, “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” was released earlier this year.

The Palm Downer, an honorary award presented at Cannes, has been previously bestowed upon renowned actors such as Tom Cruise, Forrest Whitaker, Jodie Foster, and Jane Fonda.

Ingmar Bergman was the first recipient of this prestigious accolade in 1997.

Expressing his gratitude for the honor, Michael Douglas stated, “It’s always a breath of fresh air to be at Cannes, for so long a wonderful platform for daring creators, artistic daring, and excellence in storytelling.

After more than 50 years in the business, it’s an honor to return to the quasiette to open the festival and embrace our shared global language of film.”

As the Cannes Film Festival approaches, anticipation builds for the tribute to Michael Douglas and the exceptional films that will grace the silver screen.

This celebration of cinema promises to captivate audiences and remind us of the magic that lies within the world of film.
