Meghan and Harry’s Relaunch Struggles: Blaming External Factors for Unfortunate Timing
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have faced a series of setbacks in their attempts to relaunch themselves since stepping down from royal duties.
The couple has quietly expressed their disappointment over the overshadowing of Meghan’s Archetypes podcast launch last year by the funeral of the late Queen.
Furthermore, they believe that the impact of their March 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, in which they accused the royal family of racism, was diminished by public sympathy towards Prince Philip, who was hospitalized at the time and passed away shortly after.
It is undeniable that the Sussexes’ grand plans outside of the UK have not unfolded as expected by them and many others.
They attribute the blame for their struggling relaunch to a series of external factors beyond their control.

After leaving the royal family in early 2020, Harry and Meghan secured several high-profile deals worth millions of dollars, seemingly setting the stage for their future endeavors.
However, amidst the recent collapse of their Spotified deal and reports that Netflix is unlikely to renew their $150 million contract, it is evident that building brand Sussex will require substantial effort.
The couple has also faced significant public backlash for publicly criticizing the royal family, particularly in their Netflix docuseries and Harry’s memoir, Spare, released in January 2023.
According to an LA source cited by the Daily Mail, Harry and Meghan perceive themselves as victims of unfortunate circumstances.
They believe that the challenges posed by COVID-19, economic downturns, and the deaths of Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth have significantly hindered their efforts.
Recently, the couple severed their last permanent ties with the UK by removing their final boxes of belongings from Frogmore Cottage, six months after being evicted.
In 2020, Harry and Meghan announced their decision to step back from royal life, just before the world plunged into a series of lockdowns due to the pandemic.
Their interview with Oprah in March 2021 garnered global attention as they made damaging claims against the royal family, and a month later, Prince Philip passed away.
Last August, Meghan launched her podcast series, Archetypes, as part of their lucrative Spotify deal.
However, its release was briefly postponed following the Queen’s death the following month.
Despite a major restructuring and staff layoffs, Spotify recently announced that it would not be renewing the couple’s deal, citing a lack of sufficient content production.
Bill Simmons, an executive at the streaming giant, even publicly referred to them as “grifters” on his own podcast, causing shockwaves in the industry.
The same economic overcorrection is reportedly affecting the future of Harry and Meghan’s deal with Netflix.
Neither service is currently able to offer the same level of financial investment as when the couple initially signed with them.
In a statement, Sir Michael Stevens, the keeper of the Privy Purse, confirmed that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have vacated Frogmore Cottage, marking the final severance of their ties with the UK.
