Key Roles Revealed for High Profile Royals at King Charles’ Coronation
The much-anticipated coronation of King Charles is set to take place in May, and historian and author Dr. Tessa Dunlop has shed light on the important roles that other high-profile royals will play on this momentous occasion.
While the event is expected to be attended by nearly all members of the royal family, it remains uncertain whether Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will be present.
Palace officials, however, have been instructed to proceed under the assumption that they will attend.
Compared to the lengthy coronation of the late Queen Elizabeth in 1953, the upcoming ceremony is expected to be shorter and feature a significantly reduced guest list.
Nevertheless, an aide has assured that it will be a grand occasion filled with celebration and pageantry.

Buckingham Palace has stated that the coronation will reflect the monarch’s present role while honoring long-standing traditions and pageantry.
Dr. Dunlop elaborated on what we can expect to see from the royal family members other than the King and Queen Consort on May 6th.
It has been confirmed that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be included on the guest list, but their role is likely to be more subdued at Westminster Abbey.
The question of their attendance, however, remains a source of speculation.
Historical precedent suggests that Prince Harry’s great-uncle, Edward, did not attend the coronations of his brother George in 1937 or his nieces Elizabeth in 1953, following his own abdication.
However, given the changed times and the desire for unity within the family, it is expected that Harry will be present at the ceremony, albeit without the customary cornet and robe.
If Meghan attends, any regal attire she wears will be of her own choosing, as there will be minimal ceremony surrounding her presence.
In contrast, Prince William and Kate Middleton are poised to take center stage as the future King and Queen Consort.
As the heir to the throne, William will pay homage to his father by kneeling before him, pledging allegiance, and engaging in other customary rituals such as touching the crown and kissing Charles’ right cheek.
Dr. Dunlop noted that historical precedents suggest that the working royals, like William and Kate, will stand out during the coronation.
Princess Margaret, for example, had her own coronation gown designed for her in 1953, emphasizing her unique role within the royal family.
The same can be expected for the Princess of Wales and her three children.
As the next in line to the throne, William and his offspring will feature prominently in the proceedings, highlighting the order of precedence and succession.
The visual messaging conveyed through their attire and carriage will serve as a reminder of their future roles as King and Queen, whether the Sussexes approve or not.
