Keira Knightley, the usually conservative actress, has posed topless for Interview Magazine’s September issue.

The spread was shot by fashion photographer Patrick Demarchelier and features Knightley in nothing but a pair of wide-legged trousers and some three-quarter-length lacy gloves.

Knightley is known to be a private person who keeps her personal life out of the public eye and is not often seen wearing anything that borders on brazen.

However, this time she has chosen to do something different and pose completely topless.

Trending:

This is not the first time that Knightley has been involved in a scandal regarding her breasts.

In 2012, she publicly complained that her breasts had been digitally enhanced for a film poster, as well as in a Chanel fashion advert.

She stated, “For King Arthur, for a poster, they gave me these strange droopy tits.

A – I don’t have tits anyway, and B – they digitally made them, and I thought, Whoaaaaa! It’s my face on that poster.

I thought ‘Well, if you’re going to make me fantasy breasts, at least make perky breasts’.”

The magazine’s September issue is themed “The Photographer’s Issue” and features six different covers shot by different photographers or teams.

Other celebrities featured in the issue include Nicole Kidman, Naomi Campbell, Amber Valletta, Lea Seydoux, and Daria Werbowy.

Some feminists are suggesting that Knightley’s decision to pose topless could be a statement of solidarity to the #FreeTheNipple campaign.

This campaign has been championed by Rihanna, model Cara Delevingne, and Scout Willis, who was banned from Instagram for posting a photograph of a sweatshirt she designed featuring two topless women.

Willis later staged a topless protest on the streets of New York to demonstrate against Instagram’s no n^dty clauses under the belief that “no woman should be made to feel ashamed of her body”.

She stated, “What I am arguing for is a woman’s right to choose how she represents her body — and to make that choice based on personal desire and not a fear of how people will react to her or how society will judge her.

No woman should be made to feel ashamed of her body.”

Knightley, who has strict rules over her own exposure on film, has been known to be quite rigorous about what gets exposed in s** scenes in films.

She stated, “Normally the woman has to expose everything and the guy doesn’t.

s** scenes in films – I’m quite rigorous about what gets exposed.

No bottom half! I don’t mind exposing my tits because they’re so small – people really aren’t that interested.

It’s much easier as you get older.

You can say, ‘No’, ‘Yes’, ‘No’.”

The Interview Magazine spread has caused quite a stir amongst fans and critics alike.

Some are praising Knightley for taking this bold step and making a statement, while others are criticizing her for going against her own principles regarding exposure.

Regardless of the opinions of others, Knightley seems to be unfazed by the controversy surrounding her topless photoshoot.
