Prince Harry was ‘itching’ for the rapturous welcome he got at the Vax Live concert.

On his podcast Heir Pod, Omid Scobie, the author of Meghan and Harry’s official biography Finding Freedom, was joined by ABC News producer Zoe Magee to discuss the event.

As he stepped on stage, the Duke was greeted with applause and cheers, with audience members jumping to their feet in anticipation of his first outing since Prince Philip’s funeral.

Scobie argues that the publicity must have made the royal happy.

Trending:

“This was really his first big on stage or sort of public moment since moving to the US,” Scobie says in the podcast.

“The rapturous applause, that standing ovation would have been the welcome he would have been itching to receive in the past year in the US.”

“He did have the rockstar vibe as he walked on stage and there’s quite a few photographs of him punching the air and pumping people up,” Magee adds.

“Obviously he was talking about all the amazing work that all the health care professionals had done so no wonder he got a standing ovation because what he was saying was very very true.”

As Harry took the stage in a rare appearance without his wife Meghan Markle, who is expecting the couple’s second child, his name was flashed up in lights and the audience went crazy.

One fan wrote on Twitter in response to a video of the event: “This is how America treats human beings unlike England treats Meghan.

“Harry belongs to us now.”

Another person said on Twitter: “This reaction for Prince Harry in California at #VaxLive is really something.

“Somehow doubt that anyone other than the Queen or his late mother would get similar.”

Harry called for vaccinations to be “distributed to everyone everywhere” while thanking frontline care staff at the concert and across the globe, speaking to an animated audience of only completely vaccinated visitors.

He said, “Tonight is a celebration of each of you here, the vaccinated frontline workers in the audience and the millions of frontline heroes around the world.

“You spent the last year battling courageously and selflessly to protect us all.

“You served and sacrificed, put yourselves in harm’s way, and acted with bravery, knowing the costs. We owe you an incredible debt of gratitude. Thank you.”

“We must look beyond ourselves with empathy and compassion for those we know and those we don’t.” he said.

The concert, which will be televised this Saturday and hosted by Selena Gomez, included musical performances by Jennifer Lopez, Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, J Balvin, and HER.

The event collected funds for Covax, a non-profit organization that works to deliver vaccinations to low- and middle-income countries.

Guests such as Ben Affleck, David Letterman, Gayle King, Jimmy Kimmel, and Sean Penn all spoke out about vaccine equity.

Via Global Citizen’s collaboration with the White House’s We Can Do This campaign, which supports initiatives such as mask-wearing, US President Joe Biden, First Lady Jill Biden, and Vice President Kamala Harris have all vowed to making special appearances.

The Duke of Sussex and his partner, Meghan Markle, were campaign chairs for the star studded Global Citizen’s VAX Live: The Concert to Reunite the World.

Global Citizen posted a clip of Harry, 36, explaining why the effort is so vital to him ahead of the broadcast on Saturday at 8 p.m.

“Over the last year, everyone has experienced so much loss and so much struggle and I think the only way that we are really going to heal and recover is to do that together,” he says.

“When [Global Citizen CEO Hugh Evans] asked us to be campaign chairs, of course, we jumped at the opportunity to say yes, to throw our support behind this because we believe in it,” he adds. “But I think what we really need to be aware of and what we cannot allow to happen, is science being politicized.”

“So many things have been politicized over the years,” he continues, “but vaccines cannot be politicized when we’re talking about life and death, which is what we’re talking about now.” “Being able to come together as humans, as people, is how we’re going to get ourselves out of this and we must ensure that everyone around the world has equal access to the vaccine, otherwise none of this works.”
