The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have bid farewell to their former residence, Frogmore Cottage, as confirmed by Buckingham Palace.

Prince Harry, 38, and Meghan, 41, were instructed to remove any remaining belongings from their UK home near Windsor Castle shortly after the Duke’s controversial memoir, Spare, in which he criticized his family.

Frogmore Cottage, a Crown Estate property that the couple renovated, was their last foothold in the UK before relocating to California.

During the annual Sovereign Grant Account briefing on Royal Finances, Sir Michael Stevens, Keeper of the Privy Purse, announced, “We can confirm that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have vacated Frogmore Cottage.

We will not delve into the details of these arrangements here.”

He further stated that the couple had covered the expenses for the renovation of Frogmore Cottage, leaving the Crown with a significantly enhanced asset.

In 2020, Harry and Meghan stepped down from their roles as working members of the monarchy and moved to the United States.

Frogmore Cottage, a Grade II listed property, was gifted to them by Harry’s late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.

However, according to Royal Accounts from 2019, the couple paid £2.4 million for the refurbishment and rental of the cottage, despite only using it a few times since their relocation.

Regarding the future occupancy of Frogmore Cottage, a palace official declined to provide any information, stating, “I have nothing to add.”

The decision about who will reside there will be communicated in next year’s report.

The palace also refrained from commenting on whether Prince Andrew, the disgraced brother of the King, would be leaving his current residence at the Royal Lodge in Windsor Great Park.

Rumors suggested that Andrew had been offered Frogmore Cottage, but a source revealed that King Charles intends to gift it to Prince William or one of the Prince of Wales’ three children, much to Meghan’s frustration.

Alternatively, Prince Andrew may choose to live with Princess Beatrice or Princess Eugenie.

Sir Michael emphasized that details of the Duke’s private lease arrangements would not be discussed during the briefing.

If Andrew were to move into Frogmore Cottage, it would free up his current expansive estate for Prince William, Kate Middleton, and their three children.

However, insiders revealed that the Prince and Princess of Wales have no immediate plans to relocate from their current residence at Adelaide Cottage.

A close source to William and Kate expressed their contentment, stating, “The couple is extremely happy with their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.”

Since their departure from royal duties in January 2020, Meghan and Harry have settled in a luxurious mansion in Montecito, California, alongside their two children, Archie and Lilibet.

They have been striving to establish careers outside of the royal family, although they recently ended their partnership with Spotify.

Additionally, it appears that Prince Harry and Meghan are well aware of King Charles’ reluctance to reconcile with them.

Royal commentator Camilla Tominy shared her insights on the matter, stating that while the Sussexes may be eager for an apology, their royal relatives do not seem in a hurry to mend fences.

As the Duke and Duchess of Sussex bid farewell to Frogmore Cottage, it marks the end of an era for the couple in the UK.

Their new life in California continues to evolve as they navigate their careers and relationships within and beyond the royal family.
