Will Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Drama feature on Netflix’s ‘The Crown’ ?
The Crown will feature Princess Diana, one of the most significant personalities in contemporary monarchy, in its fourth season. This implies that the Netflix drama will be setting the groundwork for one of the royal family’s greatest scandals: Princess Diana and Prince Charles’ bitter divorce, as well as Charles’ affair with Camilla Parker-Bowles, his now-wife.
Part of us hoped for a sight of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex together when we heard that the Netflix series has been extended for a sixth season (perhaps even their controversial royal exit). However, according to a recent interview with creator Peter Morgan, this isn’t going to happen.
Peter Morgan, the show’s creator, has said that he adheres to the “20-year rule,” which states that he does not like to address real-life events until at least 20 years have passed. That the Meghan Markle and Prince Harry love story is still too fresh for him to recreate is obvious.
In an August interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he said, “Meghan and Harry are in the middle of their journey, and I don’t know what their journey is or how it will end. One wishes some happiness, but I’m much more comfortable writing about things that happened at least 20 years ago.”
Morgan had previously said that The Crown will finish after Season 5, but he has since changed his mind and announced that it would be extended for a total of six seasons, the last of which will concentrate on the administrations of John Major and Tony Blair.
Trending:
Blair’s tenure as Prime Minister ended in 2007, almost a decade before Harry and Meghan met for the first time in the summer of 2016. Of course, the timeframe doesn’t allow for any of the still-unfolding Sussex-related drama, which Morgan is delighted about.
He told the publication, “The Meghan and Harry story is nowhere near over yet. And I’m happy that I’m never going to write it.”
While we’re saddened by the announcement, we’re still looking forward to seeing other contemporary royals (particularly, Princess Diana) in the future seasons. If you didn’t know, The Crown’s fourth season will premiere on Netflix on November 15. And, based on the teasers, we not only get a peek inside Princess Diana and Prince Charles’ turbulent relationship, but we also meet Margaret Thatcher, played by Gillian Anderson.
In Season 4, actress Emma Corrin portrayed Diana, but in Season 5, when the series’ bi-seasonal changing-of-the-guard occurs, Elizabeth Debicki will take her position. The historical drama focuses on Queen Elizabeth throughout her reign, with a different actress playing her every two seasons to properly depict her age development without the use of artificial makeup.
Claire Foy portrayed the Queen in Seasons 1 and 2, and Olivia Colman in Seasons 3 and 4. Imelda Staunton will portray her in the last two seasons of the show.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry stunned the royal family and the rest of the world with their choice to leave the monarchy.
