Why Queen won’t strip Harry and Meghan’s royal titles
According to royal commentators, it is “unlikely” that the Queen will strip Harry and Meghan of their royal titles because it would require an Act of Parliament.
Earlier this week, it was reported that top staffers at Buckingham Palace had asked the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to relinquish their titles.
The Duke of Sussex was recently chastised for comments he made about the royal family on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast.

He criticized his father, Prince Charles, for his parenting abilities, stating that he was handled “the way he was treated.”
“When it comes to parenting, if I’ve experienced some form of pain or suffering because of the pain or suffering that perhaps my father or my parents had suffered, I’m going to make sure I break that cycle so that I don’t pass it on,” Harry told Shepard.
According to royal writer Richard Palmar, the Queen may not want to repeat the same error that she made when she stripped Princess Diana of her royal title following her divorce from Prince Charles.
“Speaking so publicly about the way he and his father were brought up is upsetting and damaging for Charles, the Queen and the monarchy, just as his father speaking about his distance from his parents was damaging and upsetting,” he said on Twitter.
“Some royals and their advisers may think Harry and Meghan should stop using royal titles but the Queen is unlikely to force the issue after the mistakes she made with Diana.”
Unnamed senior insiders told the Evening Standard on Monday that there is “no appetite” to depose Meghan or Harry.
“The position on titles has been discussed by all parties months ago and remains the same.”
Critics called Harry’s words, in which he appeared to blame his upbringing’s misery on the way his father was raised, a “betrayal” of the family.
According to Dr Bob Morris, a senior research fellow at The Constitution Unit, a deprivation of peerage – the revocation of Harry and Meghan’s titles – would need an Act of Parliament.
This implies that a legislation removing their titles would have to be approved by both the Houses of Commons and the House of Lords.
The Queen has emphasized in public speeches since the Sussexes indicated their intention to stand away from royal duties that the pair remain much loved members of the family.
However, Harry’s remarks risk inflaming family relations when he returns to Britain on July 1 to dedicate a monument of his mother, Princess Diana.
