Prince William hails England’s ‘top team performance’ to make Euros semis
As he led social media response to England’s 4-0 victory against Ukraine, Prince William hailed the Three Lions’ success as a “top team performance.”
The England squad will go to the semi-finals of the football competition thanks to their win on Saturday.
Following England’s win, the Duke of Cambridge tweeted: “Another top team performance and clean sheet from @England tonight. #ThreeLions.
The Duke of Cambridge praised the team’s ‘clean sheet’ during the encounter at Rome’s Stadio Olimpico, saying he ‘can’t wait for Wednesday’s semi-final against Denmark.
England’s next encounter will be played in Wembley Stadium in London, where the squad will compete for a spot in the final.

The tweet was signed off with the letter “W” for William, who was there at Wembley Stadium with his wife, the Duchess of Cambridge, and their seven-year-old son, Prince George, as England beat Germany in a Round of 16 match.
However, the Cambridges, along with thousands of other England supporters, were unable to go to Italy for the game on Saturday night because all UK entrants were required to self-isolate for five days after landing in Italy, which is on England’s amber list.
Earlier in the week, Prince William witnessed England’s last match against Germany, which the Three Lions won 2-0.
William’s post came as supporters celebrated in streets throughout the nation, while celebrities and politicians responded to the win in Rome on Saturday night.
Ant and Dec mirrored his appreciation in a post, saying, ‘Oh boy. Hard not to get carried away innit!? Euros2020, its coming home’.
Pundit Chris Kamara said on Twitter, “Brilliant superb fantastic” and “most of all unbelievable.”
‘Well I was going to save this for the end of the game but hey. …. coming…’ wrote David Baddiel and Frank Skinner, who recorded the 1996 football hymn Three Lions with band The Lightning Seeds.
“An outstanding performance by England tonight,” Prime Minister Boris Johnson tweeted.
“We’re all behind you for the semi-finals, bring it home.”
Kensington Palace has not officially announced whether the family would attend the semi-final on Wednesday, but fans are expecting to see Prince William and Prince George, whom some fans consider to be a good luck charm, in attendance.
England supporters were ecstatic as a hat-trick of goals from the team’s two Harrys moved the Three Lions closer to Euro 2020 success.
The England team’s official Twitter account expressed gratitude to supporters.
A post read: ‘To those in Rome and those at home: thank you for your incredible support!’
One royal admirer responded to Prince William’s post by saying, “We need Prince George at that semi-final – our little good luck charm!!”
Another supporter said, “We need our England mascot #PrinceGeorge at Wembley.”
The fortunate few thousand England supporters who had made it to Italy partied into the early hours of the morning in Rome.
‘It’s been the most amazing night,’ said James Curran, who had traveled from Prague with two pals for the game. ‘I don’t think anyone in the stadium expected this result. Everyone is in dreamland.’
The current President of the Football Association is Prince William, who took over from the Duke of York in 2006.
England’s Lionesses reached the Euros semi-finals in 2017, but were defeated 3-0 by the Netherlands.
