Prince Harry writing memoir to Be Published in 2022
Prince Harry will write a “intimate and heartfelt memoir,” according to Random House, detailing “the definitive account of the experiences, adventures, losses, and life lessons that have helped shape him.”
The book will be released in late 2022.
“I’m writing this not as the prince I was born but as the man I have become. I’ve worn many hats over the years, both literally and figuratively, and my hope is that in telling my story—the highs and lows, the mistakes, the lessons learned—I can help show that no matter where we come from, we have more in common than we think,” he said in a press release. “I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to share what I’ve learned over the course of my life so far and excited for people to read a firsthand account of my life that’s accurate and wholly truthful.”
Prince Harry’s upcoming book will detail his life in the spotlight from infancy to the present, as well as his experiences as a husband and father to Meghan Markle and their two children, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor and Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor (who was born last month.)
The book, according to Penguin Random House, will detail his military experience, including his time on the front lines in Afghanistan.
Trending:
Following their departure, as well as during a pivotal interview with Oprah Winfrey in March, during which the couple revealed the racism Markle encountered as a member of the Firm, the family has been the target of constant public obsession—and ire.
The book’s revenues will be donated to charity, according to the press release.
“All of us at Penguin Random House are thrilled to publish Prince Harry’s literary memoir and have him join the world-renowned leaders, icons and change-makers we have been privileged to publish over the years,” said Markus Dohle, CEO of Penguin Random House. “Prince Harry has harnessed his extraordinary life experience as a prince, a soldier and a knowledgeable advocate for social issues, establishing himself as a global leader recognized for his courage and openness. It is for that reason we’re excited to publish his honest and moving story.”
In the midst of the royal family’s continuing public relations crisis, the memoir is sure to include additional bombshells. “Prince Harry will offer an honest and captivating personal portrait, one that shows readers that behind everything they think they know lies an inspiring, courageous, and uplifting human story,” Penguin Random House stated in a statement to the press.
Random House will publish Prince Harry’s book in print and digital forms in the United States, while Random House Canada will publish it in Canada. The book will be published in the United Kingdom by Transworld, a Penguin Random House UK imprint, with other publication territories to be confirmed at a later date. Penguin Random House Audio will release an audiobook edition of the book at the same time.
The book follows Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s sit-down interview with Oprah Winfrey, in which they discussed their decision to stand down as senior members of the British royal family and the tremendous media scrutiny they have received. Prince Harry spoke out about resorting to drugs and alcohol years after his mother, Princess Diana, died in The Me You Can’t See, a mental health docuseries starring Prince Harry and Oprah Winfrey, launched on Apple TV+ in May.
Meghan also claimed that a member of the royal family had expressed concern about their son’s skin color and that her life as a royal had driven her to suicidal thoughts.
According to Omid Scobie, a royal correspondent for Harper’s Bazaar, the memoir does not yet have a title.
Meghan Markle, Prince Harry’s wife, released her children’s picture book “The Bench,” through Random House Books for Young Readers earlier this month.
