According to a palace official, the Royal Family will scrutinize a multimillion-dollar contract agreed by Prince Harry and Megan Markle with Netflix.

Although the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had left royal duties “with everyone’s best wishes,” a source told the Daily Mirror that the pair had “agreed all commercial transactions would be open to negotiation.”

“Any deals they make will, without a doubt, be scrutinized by the royal household,” the source added.

The Sussexes revealed earlier this week that they have signed a contract with Netflix to produce documentaries, docuseries, feature films, scripted plays, and children’s shows worth between $100 million (£75 million) and $150 million (£113 million).

According to the publication, “one worry is how the lucrative job transition will seem to the British public as the pair is already repaying £2.4 million in taxpayer money lavished on the refurbishment of their Frogmore Cottage home at Windsor.”

According to the Mail on Sunday, Harry and Meghan agreed to repay the money under a “rental-plus agreement” in May. The couple were spending “just short of £18,000 a month to keep Frogmore as their official British headquarters,” according to the publication.

Following the announcement of their Netflix contract, Royal analyst Ingrid Seward told the Daily Mail that Prince Charles will be “happier that they would no longer be on his payroll, and the British people will be relieved that they will pay back what they owe now on Frogmore Cottage, because it’s a win-win arrangement.”

According to The Sun, though, other Royals may be a little annoyed. The Queen was not aware of the deal by the Sussexes until it was revealed, according to the report, and was instead “fed the news by her aides.”
