Meghan Markle’s first boyfriend appeared on UK television recently, making a big declaration that reveals her American aspirations.

On Tuesday, Joshua Silverstein appeared on Lorraine, where he spoke fondly of the Duchess of Sussex, who is now married to Prince Harry.

Joshua Silverstein, who dated Meghan when they were both adolescents, said on Lorraine Kelly’s show that he supports the duchess with everything she does to better the world.

Silverstein said: “I hope that whatever Meg is doing in this moment she knows she can trust me. I definitely have nothing but respect for her and what it looks like she’s doing.

“I love that she and Harry are working on this documentary with Oprah about mental health. I think mental health is one of the biggest crises in our world right now and so that’s great they’ll be drawing all that attention to that.

    “I even heard that she might run for office in the States here. Depending on who she surrounds herself with, that could be great.

    “So I support her as long as she’s keeping her focus on change and awareness and trying to make the world a better place – that’s awesome.”

    He also said: “She has a lot of access but also a lot of responsibility to the country now. She’s a figurehead.

    “A lot of people are looking up to her for her guidance as a role model, young black girls, looking at Meghan now in ways I’m sure Meghan is taking very seriously, so the fact that she’s a mother and this pop culture figure, she’s got a lot on her hands.”

    His appearance on the show coincides with the third wedding anniversary of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, which falls on Wednesday (May 19).

    “Meghan was always a strong, confident young person,” Joshua said of his ex-girlfriend. “It was very clear to me at the time that we were together, I would say, she had a very clear idea of where she wanted her path to take her.”

    “Meghan and I dated when we were kids, broke up before high school,” Joshua said of his relationship with the 39-year-old, who is now expecting her second child with Harry. “We stayed friends throughout high school. I would see her every now and again at the church we were going to.

    “I mostly stayed in contact with her mum and her mum would let me know what she’s up to, ‘Meg’s doing this’ and ‘Meg’s in Canada’, ‘Meg’s modelling, Meg’s acting’. I always knew she was busy and keeping on her trajectory of success.”

    He also spoke about how he felt when he found out Meghan was going to marry Harry.

    “My only thought when I found out that she was going to be marrying Harry was that I hope she’s happy,” he said. “That’s all that matters.

    “Love is love no matter what the relationship looks like or what the background is, so long as that love is authentic and honest and real then I’m happy for her.”

    He also seemed to imply that Meghan is planning to run for Office on the other side of the Atlantic.

     

     

     

    “You always knew Meghan was going to do great things, even when she was 13?” Lorraine inquired.

    “I did,” Joshua responded. “Meghan was always a very strong, confident young person, it was clear to me at the time we were together that she had a very clear idea of where she wanted her path to take her.”

    “As she told it, she approached me, so I think that in itself was very attractive, that a young person would have the confidence and gumption to walk up to me and tell me she thought I was attractive,” he said of how they met.

    “At the time, it was what kids did, she told her friends she liked me, I told her friends I liked her, and our friends met and they arranged it, and we became boyfriend and girlfriend.”

    “It must have been strange when you found out she was going to marry into royalty?” Lorraine wondered.

    “You always knew she would do wonderful things, but that is something else, a Duchess eventually!”

    “My only thought when I found out she was going to marry Harry was that I hope she is happy,” Joshua responded.

    After their break-up, Silverstein, now a Los Angeles-based actor, said he kept up with Meghan’s activities and that her mother, Doria Ragland, would keep him informed about her at church.

    Ragland was a member of the Agape Spiritual Center in California, which has Oprah Winfrey among its members.

    Meghan is said to have attended the center’s summer camps since she was a teenager.

    Viewers have slammed Lorraine Kelly for asking Meghan Markle’s ex-boyfriend if he was “the one that got away”

    Lorraine enraged viewers by telling Joshua, “I know she’s got a prince, but I honestly think you’re the one that got away.” Lorraine was dubbed a “troll” by viewers.

    “Who says that type of bulls**t. This man is happily married and so is Meghan and this was someone she ‘dated’ almost 30 years ago. Lorraine is a desperate troll,” said one tweep..

    Someone else fumed: “Wtf is wrong with Lorraine Kelly ? How she going to tell Joshua, Meghan’s boyfriend she had when she was young teenager, that he was the one that got away. The dude is happily married with kids as is Meghan. Embarrassing #Lorraine”
