Meghan Markle’s estranged father has retaliated following her explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey in which she accused him of abandoning her.

Thomas Markle said in a live appearance on British morning television on Tuesday that he has apologized to his daughter “at least a hundred times” for lying about his interactions with the press.

He said that they have “ghosted him” and won’t accept his apologies.

The duchess told Oprah that her father had betrayed her.

She said: “It was… if we were going to use the word betrayal.”

“Because when I asked him, when we were told by the comms team, this is a story that was going to be coming out, which, by the way, the tabloids had apparently known for a month or so and decided to hold until the Sunday before our wedding because they wanted to create drama, which is also a really key point in all this.

“We called my dad and I asked him and he said, no, absolutely not.

“I said, you know, the institution has never intervened for anything for us, but they can try to go in and kill this story.

“But if they do this once, we’re not going to be able to use that same leverage to protect our own kids one day.”

“Well, I’m talking about your grandchildren.

“I look at Archie. I think about this child and I genuinely can’t imagine doing anything to intentionally cause pain to my child.

“I can’t imagine it. So it’s hard for me to reconcile that.”

“Everyone has accountability. Look, they hunted my mom down. You’ve never heard her say a word.

“She’s remained in silent dignity for four years watching me go through this.”

Thomas, 76, says he regrets dealing with the press but has attempted to make amends. “I wish I hadn’t done the whole thing, but here’s the other side of this coin: It’s like, no one took any time to protect any member of our family. We were attacked. Nobody was there to care for us.” Bottom line is I’ve never heard back from Meghan or Harry in any way shape or form.”

“And in spite of all that, I still apologised, I’m apologising today again… I also said we all make mistakes… but I’ve never played naked pool and I’ve never dressed up like Hitler.”

Thomas Markle also responded to concerns regarding Meghan Markle’s remarks about racism and the royal family’s discussion of her son Archie’s skin tone by saying: “It could have been just a stupid question from someone, someone who doesn’t understand, you know. A black person marries a white person. What do you get? You never know, but you get a baby.”

She had claimed that “concerns and conversations” about “how dark” her son Archie’s complexion would be when he was born prevented him from being proclaimed a prince.

Thomas has volunteered to mend relations with his daughter, saying that he only lives around 70 miles away in Mexico and would like to see his grandson Archie.

“I’m available any time we can get together. I’d love to get together.”

“I’ve never stopped loving my daughter I don’t always agree with the things my children do, but I never stop loving my children,” he added. “I certainly love Meghan. She can be angry with me and tell Oprah how angry she is, but I’m still her dad.
