Meghan Markle’s Awkward Encounter with the Royal Family: A Tale of Greetings and Controversy

It was a meeting that left many feeling uneasy.

Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, found herself in an uncomfortable situation as she clumsily greeted members of the royal family.

The encounter began with a bow before Queen Elizabeth, which seemed to lack grace and finesse.

But it was her attempt to hug Princess Catherine, who clearly wasn’t prepared for such a display of affection, that added to the awkwardness.

And things didn’t get any easier when it came to greeting Harry’s stepmother, Camilla.

According to Prince Harry, he had given Meghan detailed instructions on how to greet his father and Camilla before their first encounter at Clarence House in 2016.

They even went through a few rehearsals.

The protocol was clear: Meghan was to curtsy to Charles and, if he leaned in, she could give him a kiss on the cheek or simply shake his hand.

Addressing him as “your royal highness” or “sir” was also expected.

However, no curtsies were necessary for Camilla.

A quick kiss or handshake would suffice.

Doubtful, Meghan sought confirmation from Harry, questioning whether she really needed to curtsy.

To her surprise, the prince affirmed that there was no need to bow before Camilla, deeming it inappropriate.

This statement drew criticism from experts who believed that a head bow for men and a shallow curtsy for women were traditional forms of greeting for royal figures.

Despite not being a strict protocol, Camilla, as the wife of the crown prince, was automatically considered a member of the royal family and deserved a curtsy.

Speculation arose that Harry intentionally kept Meghan from adhering to the traditional greeting in order to create a sense of distance between them.

It was seen as a deliberate act to set Meghan apart from the rest of the family.

However, during the meeting itself, Meghan managed to charm Prince Charles with her love for animals, engaging in lively conversation.

Camilla, on the other hand, remained less talkative, mostly listening to others.

As the conversation progressed, Meghan sought advice from Camilla regarding dealing with negative publicity, only to be met with disappointment.

Camilla made it clear that Meghan was now the target of public scrutiny and would have to endure it.

Harry, however, disagreed, believing that his beloved should not have to suffer the attacks of the media.
