According to recent reports, Meghan Markle’s plan to hold a baby shower in New York ahead of the arrival of her son Archie in 2019 was received with “eye-rolls” from the palace.

In February 2019, a seven-month pregnant Duchess of Sussex traveled to New York to attend a baby shower celebration hosted by her friend Serena Williams. The lavish party was held in a penthouse at The Mark hotel and was attended by a number of celebrities, including Gayle King, Jessica Mulroney, and Amal Clooney. However, it turns out that not everyone at the Royal Institution approved of the New York party.

Omid Scobie, a royal author and journalist, claimed that one palace staffer was “horrified” and thought Prince Harry’s wife’s ideas were “common”

Mr Scobie said in a new Channel 4 programme called A Very Royal Baby: From Cradle to Crown: “I remember speaking to a palace aide at the time who rolled their eyes.”

“They were horrified that something so common was happening within the House of Windsor”

Ingrid Seward, a fellow royal novelist, described the party as “trashy,” adding, “They [Meghan’s celebrity pals] walked in through the front entrance carrying these enormous bags from the most expensive shops in New York.

“Crowds gathered because they were all celebrities, there was Gayle King from CBS, Serena Williams and Amal Clooney.”

Omid went on to say that the baby shower was “as far from British tradition as you can get”

He added, “We had never seen someone throw this very lavish affair to celebrate the impending arrival of a baby.”

He then disclosed Meghan’s obvious concerns about Archie being in the limelight after his birth.

And Princess Diana’s longtime butler, Paul Burrell, argued that traveling to New York “mid-term” would have been “dangerous.”

A former top assistant to Princess Diana warned The Post in February 2019 that the Duchess of Sussex was risking “alienating” the individuals who were supposed to be looking after her at Kensington Palace.

In their biography of Prince Harry and Meghan, Finding Freedom, Omid and co-author Carolyn Durant go into more detail about how the baby shower was allegedly seen by people at the palace.

“It’s fair to say that the optics of the somewhat flashy shower did not go down well with certain individuals at the palace.”

“While the trip had been a hit with Meghan, senior courtiers back in the UK were spitting out their morning tea when they saw her lavish baby shower thrown by friends turn into a media circus with what looked like carefully stage-managed paparazzi walks of the duchess in big black sunglasses from her hotel to her car and a laundry list of inside party details reported by US press,” they wrote.

“Meghan was often criticised for being too Hollywood, meant too flashy.

“Especially for the reserved aesthetic of the monarchy.”

According to reports, the Duchess did not want to have another baby shower this time around.
