The world was stunned in March by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s candid interview with US talk show host Oprah Winfrey.

Meghan put Kate in the firing line during her interview, which broadcast earlier this month on ITV. She resurrected stories that had circulated six months after the Sussexes’ 2018 wedding only minutes into the show. They said Kate was in tears after a disagreement with the new royal bride about flower-girl gowns.

Meghan told Oprah that the event had been misreported, but added, “I’m not sharing that piece about Kate to be disparaging to her.”

“I think it’s really important for people to understand the truth.”

She went on to explain that she thought the Duchess of Cambridge “would have wanted that corrected” as well, claiming Kate is a “good person” who apologized to her at the time.

When Oprah asked Meghan about the many amicable images of the two ladies at royal engagements that led the public to believe they were on good terms, Meghan replied, “My experience of the past four years is nothing like what it looks like.”

However, a royal expert claims that Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle were messaging often at one time, having “bonded over motherhood.”

According to author Carolyn Durand, the two duchesses were quite close around the time of Archie’s birth, which would have been following their alleged disagreement in the run-up to Meghan’s wedding.

The co-author of ‘Finding Freedom’ with Meghan’s biographer Omid Scobie said, “Kate was a great source of support to Meghan in the days leading up to Archie’s birth and, despite reports of a rift, they are family and have a really lovely friendship.”

“Their relationship has constantly evolved over time and they have become closer since Meghan’s wedding,” Durand said in July 2019, only months before the Sussexes declared their desire to leave ‘the Firm.’ “They talk and text regularly, they have more in common and Kate has wanted to make sure Meghan has felt welcomed to the family.” According to another insider, “There is a sense of their relationship strengthening. They’re each a little more relaxed. They have more in common now.” Meghan and Kate were also photographed with their children cheering on their spouses at a polo tournament around the time of Durand’s remarks, according to the Express.

Meghan and Prince Harry told Oprah that Archie’s birth in May of that year was a sensitive issue inside Palace gates, implying that their rupture with the Firm grew around this time.

Meghan described in the interview how, in the run-up to her wedding to Harry, her sister-in-law Kate Middleton left her in tears after a disagreement about bridesmaid outfits.

The royal family has kept relatively mum on the interview since it aired at the beginning of the month, issuing only one statement in response to Meghan’s assertions that there were talks and concerns about how dark her and Harry’s baby Archie’s complexion might be.

Last month, Omid Scobie, royal journalist and co-author of Finding Freedom, a book on the events leading up to Megxit, alleged in Harpers Bazaar that Meghan addressed an email to Kensington Palace requesting that they address the incident with Kate.

He said Meghan requested Kensington Palace staffers to “set the record straight,” but they refused.
