Marilyn Monroe chose to pose n-de due to her envy of fellow star Elizabeth Taylor’s accomplishments, as stated in an upcoming memoir.

A segment from Lawrence Schiller’s forthcoming memoir, ‘Marilyn & Me’, featured in Vanity Fair, reveals that the late actress agreed to be photographed emerging from a swimming pool without any clothes on.

The sole stipulation for this was that Taylor would not be present in any magazines where these images were published.

Schiller recounts that Monroe declared: “Larry, if I emerge from the pool completely bare, I need your assurance that when your photos grace the covers of magazines, Elizabeth Taylor won’t be in the same issue.”

Monroe seemed set on demonstrating her value to movie executives – in her final role in ‘Something’s Gotta Give’, she received $100,000, whereas Taylor was paid $1 million for ‘Cleopatra’.

Throughout her talks with Schiller, from 1960 until her death in 1962 at the age of 36, she mentioned: “No one looks like me when I’m undressed.”

Although she acknowledged her own allure, she expressed her disappointment to the photographer by saying: “It’s always about n–ity. Is that the only thing I’m good for?”
