Lindsay Lohan was a mess on the set of The Canyons: A Serial Drunk Driver

A writer on the set of Lindsay Lohan’s upcoming film, The Canyons, says he saw the actress leave the set inebriated on many occasions, and driving herself home after refusing to be taken home by a private car.

Her co-star James Deen, like many other pop culture fans, read the New York Times report on Lindsay Lohan/The Canyons over the weekend. Unlike many fans who devoured the story in search of information about Lohan, Deen was perplexed by the piece, which detailed Lohan’s love of mayhem and questionable on-set conduct. Deen told EW, “The best way I can describe [the Times article] is actual life events reflected in a mirror and then retold for dramatic effect. It’s accurate enough that it can’t be said that it’s not; it’s not a lie. But it’s twisted enough that if you were actually there you’re like, ‘Wait. That’s not exactly what happened.’”

Lohan’s current resurgence can be attributed entirely to a morbid curiosity about what happens behind closed doors, whether in a car, a club, or the Chateau Marmont (it certainly isn’t due to films like the ABC Family one in which she faked a pregnancy). However, if history repeats itself (and it will), the headlines leading up to the film will be considerably more interesting. Cue today’s New York Times Magazine profile, titled “Here Is What Happens When You Cast Lindsay Lohan in Your Movie” and telling exactly that.

Stephen Roderick, who was given permission to document the whole Canyons project from start to finish, has written a report about the actress. He says that throughout the shoot, Lohan was a complete wreck, frequently sobbing at the drop of a hat and absolutely drained…

Lohan, according to Rodrick, was a mess who was sacked after missing two days of filming. According to Rodrick, Lohan arrived at the director’s hotel room and hammered on the door while screaming frantically and pleading for her job back.

Lohan reportedly cried for 90 minutes in the corridor before ultimately departing, according to Rodrick.

“Eventually, she was hired back to the production — and things got worse … with Lohan constantly criticizing producers and her co-stars’.

‘But the most concerning part, Rodrick says Lohan had been drinking before a scene in which she would be simulating a 4-way sex scene with some real-life adult movie actors’.

‘After the scene, producers offered Lindsay a hired car to drive her home … but she refused … and drove off in her Porsche. Rodrick says producers “all hoped they would still have a lead actress in the morning.”

Lohan also freaked out before a sex scene in which she was meant to be nude, according to Rodrick… She went into a closet and shut herself in. According to Rodrick, the director had to persuade her to do the sequence… He ultimately stripped naked to show her that it wasn’t such a big deal.

Lohan ultimately took off her robe and filmed a 14-minute sex scene, proving that the ruse worked.

Lindsay once partied with Lady Gaga until 5:30 a.m., despite having a 6:00 a.m. call time, according to the story. She arrived on set at 9 a.m., but departed shortly after a doctor told her she was too unwell to film.

James Deen had heard the rumors about her drug and alcohol abuse, but he’d never seen a Lindsay Lohan film – not even Mean Girls. So Deen had no idea what to anticipate when Lohan showed up late for her first day on set with him, according to The New York Times. There’s audio of the two of them bickering about a scene one day, with Deen indicating he was making The Canyons “for fun,” which appeared to irritate Lohan – a conversation Deen chalks up to a miscommunication. “It’s just the delicate ego of the Hollywood person,” he said. “I’ve learned that most people in the Hollywood mainstream world are so delicate, fragile and egotistical. [Comments like mine] really f*** with their heads.”
