The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been labelled as “f***ing frauds” by a top Spotify executive after their podcast, Archewell Audio, was cancelled.

The couple’s podcast only ran for one series and will not be renewed after they reportedly secured an £18m deal in late 2020.

It is believed that the Sussexes could lose £8m due to the cancellation, according to the Mirror.

On Friday, Bill Simmons, head of podcast development and adaptation at Spotify, criticised the couple in an episode of his own podcast, saying, “That’s the f***ing frauds, that’s the podcast we should have sent them off with.

I have to get drunk one night and tell the story of the Zoom I had with Harry to help him with a podcast idea.

It’s one of my better stories.”

Simmons joined Spotify after selling his sports and pop culture website and podcast network, The Ringer, to the company for £1.156m.

In January of last year, he described it as embarrassing to be used by the same company as Prince Harry, and has been critical of the couple.

“Shoot this guy into the sun,” he said, according to sports website The Big Lead.

“I’m so sick of this guy.

What does he offer of real value?

He just whines about s*** and keeps giving interviews.

Who gives a s*** who cares about your life?

You weren’t even the favourite kid.

You live in f***ing Montecito, and you just sell stories and podcasts, and no one really cares what you have to say about anything, unless you talk about the Royal Family, and you complain about them.”

Archewell Audio was hosted by Meghan, and ran from August last year, with 12 episodes in the first and only series.

She interviewed celebrities, historians, and experts about the history of stereotypes against women.

Among those interviewed by the Duchess of Sussex were tennis star Serena Williams, singer Mariah Carey, Paris Hilton, and actresses Mindy Kaling and Constance Wu.

The farewell has now been confirmed by a statement from Archewell Sound, the couple’s content creation company, and Spotify.

The joint statement from Archewell and Spotify said, “Spotify and Archewell Sound have mutually agreed to part ways and are proud of the series we created together.”

Harry and Meghan signed a lucrative deal with the music streaming giant to host and produce podcasts, estimated to be worth around £18m, in late 2020.

At the People’s Choice Awards in Los Angeles in December, Archewell Audio won the top podcast award.

Meghan then reflected on the couple’s Archewell website, saying, “I love digging my hands into the process, staying up late at night in bed working on the writing and creative.

And I love diving deep into meaningful conversation with my diverse and inspiring guests, laughing and learning with them.

It has been such a beautiful source of both pain and joy.”

Archewell Audio was launched with the aim of exploring labels that try to keep women down.

Through conversations between Meghan and historians, experts, and women who have experienced being pigeonholed, the podcast aimed to challenge stereotypes.

Recently, the Duchess of Sussex was awarded a Gracie award for her Spotify podcast.

The Gracie awards, which are organised by the Alliance for Women in Media foundation, celebrate worthy programming and achievements by women in the media.

Responding to her success on the Archewell website, Meghan said, “Thank you to the Alliance for Women in Media foundation for this esteemed honour.

This is a shared achievement for myself and the team behind Archewell Audio, most of whom are women, and the inspiring guests who joined me every week.”

In conclusion, the cancellation of Harry and Meghan’s podcast has been met with criticism from a top Spotify executive.

Despite winning a Gracie award for the podcast, Archewell Audio will not be renewed for a second series.

The joint statement from Archewell Sound and Spotify suggests that the two companies have parted ways amicably.
