Emma Watson nude photo leak threat exposed

Many saw internet threats to disclose sexual photos of Emma Watson, the Harry Potter star, as a hostile response to a fiery speech the Harry Potter star had just made to the United Nations about women’s rights.

According to Business Insider, an unidentified 4chan user uploaded a countdown timer with a picture of the “Harry Potter” actress wiping away a tear, implying that she may be the next celebrity whose iCloud was hacked and personal photographs made public.

Personal photographs of Jennifer Lawrence and Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Kate Upton were uploaded on the image-sharing site 4Chan earlier this month.

However, in a weird twist, a website purporting to be affiliated with an internet marketing firm said on Wednesday that it had made up the threat as a PR stunt to shut down the infamous messageboard 4chan.

A statement on the site says, “Join us as we shutdown 4chan and prevent more private pictures from being leaked. None of these women deserve this and together we can make a change.”

The countdown is no longer visible on the site, which now links to the Rantic.com homepage. Rantic advertises itself as a “social media marketing enterprise that has participated in some of the most viral campaigns and music videos.”

According to numerous media sources, Rantic itself might be a hoax. According to Business Insider, Rantic.com does not exist and is instead the product of a gang of online hoaxers known as SocialVevo, whose goal is to acquire page views by exploiting internet trends.

There is also a letter to President Barack Obama that reads, “We have been hired by celebrity publicists to bring this disgusting issue to attention. The recent 4chan celebrity nude leaks in the past 2 months have been an invasion of privacy and is also clear indication that the internet NEEDS to be censored. Every Facebook like, share & Twitter mention will count as a social signature — and will be one step closer to shutting down www.4chan.org. ”

Emmayouarenext.com had 48 million visitors, 7 million Facebook shares and likes, and 3 million Twitter mentions, according to the website. “Brad Cockingham” is the founder/CEO of Rantic.com. “4chan is messing with the wrong one, ladies have been suffering, kids are being exposed to utterly disturbing content, 4chan IS KILL,” it wrote on Twitter on Wednesday.

Despite the fact that the short description on Rantic.com claims that they were “hired by celebrity publicists” to bring the privacy breach issue via 4Chan to light, according to Time, no celebrities have come out to declare they worked with Rantic.
