Jennifer Lawrence ‘disappointed in herself’ for Passengers role
Jennifer Lawrence has addressed the backlash around her 2016 sci-fi picture Passengers.
The Oscar winner starred alongside Chris Pratt in Morten Tyldum’s (The Imitation Game) 2016 sci-fi, but critics panned the film after it was released because of a plot flaw that saw Pratt’s character wake up 90 years early during a 120-year journey through space before questionably waking up Lawrence’s character after a year alone – something many called “creepy.”
As far as meet-cutes go, it’s rather terrifying, and it proved to be a stumbling block for many viewers who couldn’t get over it.
In a new interview, Lawrence was interrogated about the film, and while she defended the production and her role in it, she said that she wished she had done more research before joining.
Lawrence told Vogue magazine, ‘I’m disappointed in myself that I didn’t spot it.’

‘I thought the script was beautiful — it was this tainted, complicated love story. It definitely wasn’t a failure. I’m not embarrassed by it by any means. There was just stuff that I wished I’d looked into deeper before jumping on.’
Fortunately, Lawrence is working on other projects, including a film starring comedian Amy Schumer in which the two will portray “dysfunctional twins.” Lawrence remarked, “We’re meeting with directors,” adding, “It’s sad. Then funny.”
She discussed her next picture Mother!, which she didwith Darren Aronofsky (whom Lawrence is dating). She described how she hyperventilated and broke a rib while filming one particularly frightening scene.
“I ended up on oxygen,” she explained. “I have oxygen tubes in my nostrils, and Darren’s like, ‘It was out of focus; we’ve got to do it again.’ And I was just like, ‘Go f*** yourself.’”
Lawrence also discussed how having intimate images of herself posted online has affected her in the conversation.
“It’s scary when you feel the whole world judges you,” she remarked. “I think people saw [the hacking] for what it was, which was a sex crime, but that feeling, I haven’t been able to get rid of it. Having your privacy violated constantly isn’t a problem if you’re perfect. But if you’re human, it’s terrifying.”
“When my publicist calls me, I’m like, ‘Oh my God, what is it?’ Even when it’s nothing. I’m always waiting to be blindsided again.”
“It’s scary when you feel the whole world judges you.”
