Dumbarton residents blast ‘virtue signalling’ Meghan and Harry for ‘rejecting title for Archie’
Residents of Dumbarton have criticized Prince Harry and Meghan Markle for reportedly turning down an Earl title in their town’s name.
Locals in the working-class town of West Dunbartonshire, one of Scotland’s most impoverished regions, slammed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for being “stupid,” “woke,” and “insulting” for rejecting the name.
The Sussexes are concerned that it may lead to bullying since it is often used as slang for “stupid” in the United States, where the couple lives.
On their wedding day, Harry and Meghan were granted the titles Earl and Countess of Dumbarton, implying that their son might inherit them.
According to a source, “they were worried about how that might look.”

“It wasn’t just Meghan who pointed out the potential pitfalls, it also bothered Harry,” a second source allegedly told the tabloid.
However, some residents were concerned that the denial would “alienate” the Sussexes from Scotland, claiming that they were wounded by the rejection.
Lifelong inhabitants of Dumbarton, a tiny town west of Glasgow, denied that Archie would be harassed as a result of the connection and argued that sharing the town’s name was something to be proud of.
The Dumbarton Football Club went to Twitter to joke about the issue, but for locals, it’s a kick in the teeth.
Dumbarton MSP Jackie Baillie joked it was a ‘low blow’ and shared a meme of her with the words ”mon then’, while Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar added: ‘The Queen… of Dumbarton @jackiebmsp is not going to be happy!’
Residents, on the other hand, seem enraged by the snub.
“Not giving Archie the title is going to alienate them even more from Scotland. It’s an offence to everybody living here,” said Ann Proudfoot, 63.
Sophie Clifford, 24, a customer service representative, told the newspaper, “I’m a big fan of Harry and Meghan, so this is so disappointing and hurtful.”
Nicole Bates, a 21-year-old mother of one, said that she had been labeled a “dumb blonde,” but it had nothing to do with where she came from, which she described as a “good place.”
Deborah Jardine, a 45-year-old administrative assistant, said, “They’re dumb themselves for not giving him the title for that ridiculous reason.”
Baillie, a Labour MSP, has encouraged the Sussexes to rethink.
She stated: “Dumbarton is a wonderful place and the people of Dumbarton have always prided ourselves on being open and accepting.
“We welcome with open arms anyone who wishes to be associated with or call Dumbarton their home.
“If the rumours about Harry and Meghan are true, then I would encourage them to rethink their decision as I think there is no greater honour than being named after the town.”
The pub worker said ‘I think that’s shocking. I don’t know why they would do that. Dumbarton’s a good place, full of crazy people but they are certainly not dumb.
‘I used to be blonde, so I guess I could get called a dumb blonde – but it’s nothing to do with being from Dumbarton. I think they (think) it could maybe affect their children, so they are trying to protect them.’
Harry and Meghan, 39, Countess of Dumbarton, have never visited the town since the Queen bestowed their titles on them.
Prince Harry, 36, is believed to have refused to give his children titles in the first place. Instead, he is said to wish to follow in the footsteps of his aunt, Princess Anne, who did not bestow titles on son Peter and daughter Zara.
The Queen is in Scotland with Prince William and Princess Anne for Holyrood Week festivities, which began on Monday.
