Deadlock: King Charles III Faces Property Headache as Royal Family Members Refuse to Vacate Stately Homes

The British monarchy has always been intertwined with the world of real estate.

Throughout history, kings and queens have acquired properties through various means, including marriage and purchase.

In modern times, it is difficult to determine the exact number of grace and favor homes owned by the royal family, but estimates range from 140 to over 200.

However, the new King Charles III finds himself in a sticky situation with a property mess worth over $70 million.

The cause?

Trending:

Two troublesome princes – Prince Andrew and Prince Harry.

These two dukes have not only been a thorn in the palace’s side for years, but they have also burdened the king with a complex issue involving fragile egos, the royal pecking order, and some of the most exclusive real estate in the world.

Let’s start with the Royal Lodge, a Georgian house that was the residence of the queen mother for five decades.

After her passing in 2002, Andrew, as a senior member of the royal family, was given a 75-year lease on the property.

He invested $14 million in renovations and became the new lord of the manor.

However, Andrew’s downfall came with his ill-fated 2019 BBC interview, which led to his removal as a senior working member of the royal family.

Following Queen Elizabeth’s passing, King Charles III took charge and seemed unwilling to allow Andrew to continue living in such a prestigious property.

In March, it was reported that the king had instructed Andrew and his ex-wife, Fergie, to move into Frogmore Cottage.

This decision was prompted by another set of troublemakers – Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

In 2018, Harry and Meghan declined the opportunity to reside in a spacious apartment at Kensington Palace and instead chose to live in Windsor.

Queen Elizabeth granted them Frogmore Cottage, which required $4.46 million in renovations funded by the sovereign grant.

However, they only lived there for six months before taking a break in Canada and have not returned since.

After signing lucrative contracts with Netflix, they repaid the grant money.

Reports suggest that Princess Eugenie and her family may currently be residing in Frogmore Cottage, but details are unclear.

In February of this year, it was reported that Charles had decided to evict Harry and Meghan from the property, intending to relocate Andrew there.

However, Andrew’s oversized ego has hindered this plan.

Despite ongoing renovations, he has shown no intention of leaving the Grand Royal Lodge, where he still has 55 years left on his lease.

The situation becomes even more complicated when considering Prince William and Catherine.

They initially moved into Adelaide Cottage, a four-bedroom property, but there have been discussions about them eventually settling in Royal Lodge, a larger and more suitable residence for their growing staff.

King Charles III is faced with a daunting task of resolving this property deadlock.

While he aims to streamline the monarchy, the stubbornness of these dukes poses a challenge.

The king recognizes that it is unseemly for them to hold onto these prestigious properties without fulfilling their royal duties.

The Daily Mail reported that Andrew fears the king may resort to cutting off the power supply to force him out.

Perhaps a less drastic approach could involve cutting off the supply of biscuits, as Andrew is known to enjoy them.

Alternatively, playing an audio version of Harry’s revealing interview at the royal lodge might be enough to persuade Andrew to vacate the premises.

In the end, the fate of these stately homes remains uncertain.

King Charles III must find a solution to this complex property puzzle while navigating the delicate dynamics of the royal family.
