Anna Kendrick talks kissing co-star Blake Lively

For their new picture, Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively locked lips, and she’s divulging a few details about her co-star.

The ladies will appear together in the forthcoming film “A Simple Favor.” It follows mommy blogger Stephanie (Kendrick) as she investigates the disappearance of her closest friend, the ultrachic and ultramysterious Emily, directed by Paul Feig (Lively). To promote the film, the “Gossip Girl” alum went silent on Instagram for a bit and now exclusively attends red carpets in impeccably tailored suits.

The actress revealed to Pride Source how she prepared for her on-screen kiss with co-star Blake Lively.

While Kendrick’s character Stephanie appears to be straight, Lively’s Emily is “very comfortable with the fluid aspects of her sexuality,” according to Kendrick. And it’s because of this sexual mobility that they kiss at a crucial point in the movie.

“I mean, all I’m ever thinking about in [kissing] scenes is, ‘Who has gum? Who has a mint?’ And I think Blake is probably the same because I’ve never experienced a guy, like, searching for a mint and searching for gum,” Kendrick, 33, said, “So, we were the mintiest, freshest two people to have ever kissed in the history of America.”

It’s no secret that these two have a girl crush on each other. Blake joked earlier this summer that the only person she’d cheat on Ryan Reynolds with is Anna, and Anna responded by saying that she “let Ryan” have Deadpool, so it’s fine.

Kendrick has kissed women throughout her life and is comfortable with elements of her sexuality, according to her.

“I definitely — there’s somebody I’m still friends with, and when we met we kissed,” Kendrick said. “This was after high school, and it was the first time I had kissed a girl where it wasn’t just like, we’re at a party and boys are watching! That horrible performance silliness.”

“But I think I haven’t had that emotional love for a lady, which isn’t saying it could never happen to me, but I think I’m more of an Emily than a Stephanie,” she added.

Kendrick said Lively’s character is a “surprise” to her character.

“That scene: I remember Blake and I both feeling like neither of us wanted to be the aggressor in the scene. Blake was worried that she would come off as taking advantage of me in that scene because I’m in a very vulnerable place, and I was worried that I would come off like I wanted so much more, and that Blake is just kind of playing and Emily is very comfortable with the fluid aspects of her sexuality, whereas Stephanie has more of an emotional component to it,” Kendrick explained.

“So, I was worried it would be, like, really sad. We definitely struggled to find that perfect balance of, there’s just this moment and they both get caught up in it and it’s a little uncomfortable. Yeah, it was a fun day,” she continued.

Kendrick also stated that a nude artwork of Lively as Emily that appears in the film and clearly displays her vagina was done in post-production rather than on site. Lively, she says, was responsible for it’s explicit nature.

“Sometimes it was green screen,” she explained, “and other times it was this other painting that was very nice but very Tumblr art. It was actually Blake’s idea to have it be a little bit more, um, obscene. Certainly it’s art, but a little more shocking for Stephanie to see. Not so polished, not so pretty, not so coy. I thought that was really brilliant.”

A Simple Favor appears to have revealed some deeper aspects of Kendrick’s nature, which is fascinating.
