Woody Allen refutes Dylan Farrow’s abuse allegations

Woody Allen has once more addressed the assault claims made against him by his daughter Dylan Farrow.

In July 2020, the 85-year-old Oscar-winning director, who has long denied the allegations, gave his first in-depth television interview in nearly three decades to CBS Sunday Morning. Two weeks after the end of the HBO miniseries Allen v. Farrow, which focused on the molestation claims, the sit-down was made available on the Paramount+ streaming service by ViacomCBS on Sunday, March 28.

“There was no logic on the face of it. Why would a guy who’s 57-years-old… I never was accused of anything in my life,” Lee Cowan of CBS Sunday Morning was informed by the director.

“I’m suddenly going to drive up in the middle of a contentious custody fight, [to] Mia [Farrow]’s country home, yet,” he continued. “A seven-year-old girl… On the surface, I didn’t think it required any investigation, even.”

The Child Sexual Abuse Clinic at Yale-New Haven Hospital conducted a six-month inquiry into the charges in 1993 and came to the conclusion that no sexual abuse had occurred, despite the fact that his behavior with Dylan was “grossly wrong,” according to the New York Times. He was never put on trial for anything.

At the time, according to the newspaper, acting Justice Elliott Wilk of the State Supreme Court of New York “said it was improbable that Mr. Allen could be charged for sexual abuse based on the facts.” But even though a group of specialists came to the conclusion that Dylan was not mistreated, the court declared that the evidence was inconclusive.

Allen told CBS News reporter Lee Cowan, “It’s so preposterous, and yet the smear has remained and they still prefer to cling to, if not the notion that I molested Dylan, then the possibility that I molested her.”

“Nothing that I ever did with Dylan in my life could be misconstrued as that.”

Allen said, “There was no logic to it on the face of it,” in reference to Dylan Farrow’s charges.

The famed director said he believes his now-estranged 35-year-old daughter believes the allegation.

Allen said, “She was a good kid and I believe she thinks it.” “I do not believe that she’s making it up. I don’t believe she’s lying. I believe she believes that.”

Farrow claims that the Oscar winner molested her when she was seven years old in 1992.

Farrow said to Gayle King in 2018: “As I played with the toy train, I was sexually assaulted.” “As a seven-year-old, I would’ve said he touched my private parts.”

In Allen v. Farrow, interviews with Mia Farrow, Woody’s former girlfriend, and Dylan, now 35, were included. The claims of sexual assault made by Dylan, who was 7 years old at the time, came to light during a custody dispute in 1992. In remarks to Vanity Fair in 2013, Dylan made the allegations public. She then expanded on them in essays published in the New York Times in 2014, the Los Angeles Times in 2017, and the CBS This Morning in 2018.

According to him, Dylan Farrow’s mother Mia Farrow, Allen’s previous girlfriend, tricked Dylan Farrow into imagining the assault.

Previously, Dylan Farrow said to King: “How has this bizarre tale of me being indoctrinated and trained about being sexually attacked by my father become more credible? My mother has never instructed me along the road; she has simply ever encouraged me to share the truth.”

Allen said that he doesn’t give a damn what other people think of him.

“To me, it doesn’t matter. It doesn’t bother me,” he said. “Do I care that some guy sitting home or some woman is thinking, ‘I don’t care what investigators say, I still believe he’s a pedophile.’ It’s as meaningful as the person sitting at home saying, ‘I believe him. He’s a wonderful guy and he’s gotten a raw deal.’ That and 15 cents gets me on the subway.”

In addition, he spoke about his connection with Soon-Yi Previn, a child Mia Farrow had with musician André Previn.

After she found nude pictures of her daughter, who was 21 at the time, in the then-56-year-old filmmaker’s apartment, Mia Farrow and Allen’s relationship came to an end.

Previn and Allen remarried after the divorce; they have been together for 23 years. When his connection with Previn started to take shape, Allen admitted to Cowan that he was “completely startled.” “I mean, I had no interest in her whatsoever. But it developed. And she, turned out to be, you know, the deepest relationship in my life.”

Allen stated, “They don’t give two infant girls to someone they believe is a pedophile.” The couple has now adopted two children who are in college.

Cowan ends the discussion by mentioning that Dylan, whom Allen claims he hasn’t talked to since the accusations, is someone he would want to speak to.
