The bells of Westminster Abbey rang out for the first time in years to mark Prince William’s 41st birthday.

The ringing of the bells has been a royal tradition for centuries, but due to financial constraints and the COVID-19 pandemic, it has been stripped back in recent years.

Now, the bells only ring for the birthdays of the four most senior royals, which includes Prince William and his wife Catherine, Princess of Wales, King Charles, and Queen Camilla.

In the past, the bells rang out for 12 royal birthdays, including those of Queen Elizabeth, Prince Philip, their four children, Prince William and Catherine, and their three children.

However, in 2022, they only rang out for two royal birthdays, those of the late Queen and now King Charles.

They are set to ring again on July 17th and November 14th for the Queen and King’s respective birthdays.

Westminster Abbey tweeted a message to mark the occasion, wishing HRH, the Prince of Wales, a very happy birthday.

The Abbey bell rang for ringing 541 changes of the Stedman-Caters, followed by a course of London Surprise Rolls in celebration.

They shared a birthday message alongside a two-minute video of the bells ringing out to celebrate the future monarch’s big day.

King Charles also posted a sweet birthday message for his eldest son, sharing a picture on Twitter of the two taken at his coronation last month.

The post was captioned, wishing the Prince of Wales a very happy birthday today, followed by a balloon emoji.

However, a recent royal social media president revealed that the birthday message would only be posted for working royals, meaning neither Prince Harry nor Meghan Markle will receive one when they celebrate their birthday later this year.

Speaking of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the couple is reportedly considering ditching their Windsor surname in a major rebrand.

The move could see them adopt the Spencer title in a nod to Prince Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana.

One expert has stated that they believe the switch up is a bid to align with Diana.

Claims over a potential rebrand for the couple began when it was confirmed that their deal with Spotify had come to an end last week.

With their multi-million pound deal scrapped, royal author Tom Bauer has stated that they could be set to change their name.

The change would see both Meghan and Harry go under his last mother’s maiden name, Spencer.

As for Prince William’s birthday celebration, it seems that his wife Catherine may have been a bit jealous of the special gift he received from the Queen’s Order.

In a video posted on YouTube, Catherine jokingly asked, “What about me?”

as she looked at the gift that her husband had received.

All in all, it was a happy and celebratory day for Prince William, with the bells of Westminster Abbey ringing out in his honor.
