South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone recently addressed the controversy surrounding their animated show’s portrayal of the Canadian royal family, which bore a striking resemblance to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

In an interview with Today, Parker revealed that they received numerous complaints over the years but were unfazed by the backlash.

The episode in question depicted a privacy-seeking couple from Canadian royalty embarking on a worldwide privacy tour.

The animated characters even sported similar outfits to those worn by Harry and Meghan, including the dusty pink ensemble Meghan wore during Trooping the Colour in 2019.

After the episode aired, Meghan was reportedly upset and overwhelmed by the portrayal, leading to a storm of controversy.

However, the Sussexes have since denied any plans to sue over the animated depiction.

Parker and Stone, who have faced lawsuits in the past, expressed their indifference towards legal threats.

They also shed light on the history of controversy surrounding their show, with many of their parodies leading to legal action.

One of their most infamous parodies involved Tom Cruise and his association with Scientology.

Parker and Stone explained that they were inspired to create the episode after witnessing the litigious nature of Scientology and the fear it instilled in Hollywood at the time.

The duo admitted that they enjoy pushing boundaries and testing the limits of what they can say through satire.

While Harry and Meghan’s representatives dismissed the South Park episode as baseless and boring, rumors circulated that the couple had attempted to block its airing.

According to sources, Harry allegedly contacted the producers, but they refused to comply with his request.

This incident led to speculation about Harry’s commitment to free speech, as he seemingly tried to suppress the show’s content.

Interestingly, a Reddit user claiming to be connected to Parker and Stone shared another perspective.

According to this individual, Meghan was the one behind Harry’s attempt to halt the episode’s release.

Apparently, Harry responded to the producers’ refusal by asserting that they had misconstrued their desire for privacy and got many details wrong.

The call reportedly ended with the producers playfully reminding Harry that it was just a cartoon.

Regardless of the back-and-forth, South Park’s creators remain undeterred by the controversy.

They continue to push boundaries and challenge societal norms through their satirical portrayals.

As for Meghan and Harry, they may have to endure the occasional animated parody as part of their public lives, whether they find it amusing or not.
