When Robbie Williams rented a property from Dan Aykroyd 18 years ago, he said he was plagued by the spirit of late The Mamas and the Papas star Mama Cass.

The former Take That singer claims the LA house where Cass Elliot, better known as Mama Cass, lived before dying of heart failure at the age of 32 in 1974 is ‘completely and utterly haunted.’

He told Jo Wood on her Alien Nation podcast that he had felt a spectral presence in the house as soon as he moved in and said to the spirit: “I know that you are here and I am going to respect your space. I please ask you to respect mine as I am scared of you.”

He said: “My friend who I was living with at the time came down. He’d just had a shower and he was white. I said, ‘What’s up?’ And he said, ‘I’ve just had a conversation with someone that wasn’t there’.”

Williams, who lived in the property for three months eighteen years ago, claimed “there was this silence I’ve never experienced before or since” when Mamas and the Papas’ best-known single California Dreamin’ was played.

Robbie informed Jo Wood on her Alien Nation show that his wolf pet Sid began whining and refused to stay in the room.

Williams claims to have shared his experience with Zak Starkey, the son of Ringo Starr, who grew up in the mansion when the former Beatle owned it.

Speaking to Jo Wood, ex wife of Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood, Robbie said that Zak asked him: ‘I hear you’re at the old house. Have you met the kids yet? We used to play with them when we were little.’

When he departed, removal workers refused to enter the house “because of the old lady sitting in the chair,” he said.

Dan Aykroyd, the house’s owner, is aware of the alleged ghost and has previously stated, “I’m sure it’s Mama Cass. You get the feeling it’s a big ghost.

“I had several experiences. I saw things moving around on our counter, and doors opening and closing.

“The staff also had experiences, direct contact in terms of tactile touching, and then turning around and there’s no one there.”

Robbie is still based in Los Angeles, where he lives with his wife Ayda Field, 40, his four-year-old son Charlton, and their two-year-old daughters Theodora and Colette.
