Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to Use Princess Diana’s Maiden Name as Surname
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly planning to give up their Sussex titles and adopt Princess Diana’s maiden name, Spencer, as their surname.
This unexpected move has been discussed not only between themselves but also with others, according to reports.
It’s no secret that the couple is interested in reviving their brand, especially after the collapse of their Spotify deal.
However, the Daily Express reported that their brand could also include a new last name, dropping Windsor in favour of Spencer.
Royal author Tom Bauer revealed on GB News that Meghan has always been passionate about Princess Diana’s legacy and suggested that they should take the Spencer surname.

Bauer also stated that Harry is on board with the idea and is willing to take his mother’s name as well.
Bauer believes that trying to fit in with Diana’s legacy would also involve dropping the Sussex title.
The couple was named Duke and Duchess of Sussex by Her Late Majesty at their wedding in 2018.
Although their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, originally used the Mountbatten-Windsor surname, their official line of succession has now adopted the Sussex surname.
The couple’s decision to adopt the Spencer surname is a surprising move, but it reflects their desire to honour Princess Diana’s memory.
Meghan has always been fascinated by Diana’s life and has even compared herself to her in the past.
According to Bauer, the couple is actively trying to remake themselves as Harry and Meghan, and adopting the Spencer surname is a part of that process.
It’s all about the breakup, he said, suggesting that the couple is trying to distance themselves from the Royal Family and create their own identity.
The decision to drop the Sussex title and adopt the Spencer surname is a bold move, but it’s not the first time members of the Royal Family have changed their last names.
Prince Philip famously changed his name from Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark to Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten when he became a British citizen in 1947.
The couple’s decision to adopt the Spencer surname is also significant because it reflects their desire to honour Princess Diana’s memory.
Diana was a beloved member of the Royal Family, and her legacy continues to inspire people around the world.
