Lady Gaga goes topless for V Magazine cover

Lady Gaga has unquestionably returned to the spotlight in a big way recently. The past 48 hours have seen her release a new track, hit the streets in full face paint, and prepare for her impending VMA performance…and that’s only the beginning! Mother Monster, who is known for keeping fans on their toes, has revealed her new V Magazine cover, and it does not disappoint. The photo was taken by Inez and Vinoodh (the same team behind her “Applause” artwork), and it’s the first of four covers that the magazine will release as part of a limited edition box set. Each chapter will show a different period of Gaga’s life, with the first (above) depicting her late teenage years as Stefani Germanotta, a brunette.

“First of 4 V covers revealed!” Gaga captioned a photo of the cover on Twitter, implying that there would be three more.

Gaga wears an undone pair of trousers and a pink sequined cropped jacket to the fashion mag. She can be seen grasping her left breast while holding up her jeans and flaunting her toned belly.

“That look was very hard for me because that is how I looked when I was 19 until I was 21 years old…all these really painful things happened during that time,” she says Marina Abramovic in the cover story.

“This is the me I was most afraid to ever be again. The me I’d left behind,” Gaga says of the cover image. “I have an ability to endure physical and mental pain for long durations, months or years of time…although I was able to withstand a challenge for that period of time in my youth, the results were destructive. I was left a shell… Does anyone really know what I went through to get here?”

    “Art was always the thing that drove me forward in these challenging and painful circumstances,” Gaga says, without specifying what she’s referring about.

    However, the truly scandalous things do not take place on the cover…

    The singer is shown entirely topless, her hair up, and her face and breasts splattered with what appears to be black mud in a V picture spread photographed by Gaga’s partners Inez & Vinoodh. Her bottom is hidden beneath what appears to be a ripped T-shirt. Her hair is down in the second shot, and she’s wearing the ripped top over bare flesh.

    In preparation of her next album “Artpop,” the 27-year-old has gone for a more natural style in recent months. When she showed up at an event with little makeup, dark hair, and bleached brows, we didn’t recognize her.
