King Charles’ Coronation: A Modern Twist on Royal Attire
As the highly anticipated coronation of King Charles draws near, the royal family is busy preparing their outfits for the grand event.
However, according to a former royal butler, Kate Middleton and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, should opt for a different style than what was seen at the 1953 coronation.
With just one week left until the coronation, royal enthusiasts are eager to uncover more about the celebration and the behind-the-scenes preparations.
Former butler, Grand Harold, reveals that this year’s coronation will be a more relaxed affair compared to the extravagant festivities of 1953.
He suggests that Queen Camilla, Kate, and Sophie will not be expected to wear tarras, a departure from tradition.

Nevertheless, according to Grand Harold, impeccable attire is still expected from these royal ladies.
Speaking on behalf of Slingo, he expresses his opinion, “The women, in my opinion, will don dresses.
They might dress in ball gowns for the evening function.
Yet it is evident that they will dress very formally during the day.”
This indicates a more relaxed dress code for the event, with the focus being on day wear rather than elaborate gowns.
When it comes to King Charles himself, the royal butler reveals that he will not be donning the customary robes worn by Queen Elizabeth and her ancestors for this significant occasion.
Explaining further, Grand Harold emphasizes that this coronation will be a completely new event, which will influence the permitted attire for the royal family.
In contrast to Queen Elizabeth’s coronation, where the aristocracy wore distinctive coronation robes, King Charles’ coronation in 2023 will see most royals opting for suits instead.
This marks a significant departure from traditional royal procedures.
The decisions regarding royal protocol and attire are typically made by the elder members of the royal family.
As they continually update etiquette, they set the standards for the rest of the group to follow.
Mr. Harold asserts that King Charles and Queen Camilla will remain committed to upholding these standards.
“There is no doubt whatsoever that the King and Queen will attend the event dressed in ceremonial robes,” he affirms.
The shift in attire for this coronation reflects the evolving nature of the royal family and their desire to adapt to modern times.
The absence of the traditional coronation robes signifies a departure from the past.
As the world eagerly awaits the coronation of King Charles, it is clear that this event will embrace both tradition and contemporary style.
In conclusion, the upcoming coronation of King Charles promises to be a blend of tradition and modernity.
