The famous horse races at Royal Ascot saw the debut of Kate Middleton and Prince William as the Prince and Princess of Wales on Friday.

The couple has attended the event several times in the past, but this was their first appearance since taking on their new titles.

Prince William looked dapper in a top hat and suit, while Kate wore a striking red dress by Alexander McQueen, her Royal Wedding dress designer.

She paired it with a matching hat by Philip Treacy, statement gold earrings, and a clutch.

The couple arrived for the fourth day of the annual event in the Royal Procession, riding in a horse-drawn carriage behind King Charles and Queen Camilla.

This was Kate’s third carriage ride of the week, having ridden with their three children at Trooping the Colour on Saturday and with Prince William at Garter Day on Monday.

Joining the Prince and Princess of Wales in their stylish carriage ride were William’s cousin Princess Beatrice and her husband, Adordo Maypelli Mozzi.

They were greeted by a huge cheer from the crowd as they entered the parade ring.

Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, and Prince Michael of Kent and his wife rode in the third carriage.

Actor Dane Judi Dench rode with her partner, David Mills, and former US Ambassador to the UK William Farish, a close friend of the late Queen, in a surprise addition to the procession.

Prince William and Princess Kate were expected to give out the prize for the Commonwealth Cup, the second race of the day.

The day of sport at the race meeting came two days after Prince William celebrated his 41st birthday.

On that day, the couple took their eldest son Prince George, who turns 10 next month, to visit Eton College, William’s alma mater.

The coronation stakes were part of Friday’s fixtures, adding extra symmetry to King Charles and Queen Camilla’s coronation year.

The stakes were first run in 1840 to mark the crowning of Queen Victoria.

The King and Queen had a horse, Candle of Hope, running in the Sundringham Stakes, the fifth race of the day.

The Royal family hoped that Prince William and Kate’s attendance would inspire some more luck after King Charles and Queen Camilla’s horse, Desert Hero, won the second race on Thursday.

Zara Tindall, the King’s niece, spoke about the poignancy of the win for the family, saying she thought their grandmother, the Queen, would have been proud.

She also said it was incredible to have a winner for Charles and Camilla and keep the dream alive.
