Harry and Meghan Consider Changing Surname to Spencer
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly considering a rebrand that could include a new last name.
According to the Daily Express, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are thinking about dropping their Mountbatten-Windsor surname in favor of Spencer, Princess Diana’s maiden name.
If this is true, it would be another blow to Harry’s late grandfather, Prince Philip, who fought hard to get Mountbatten-Windsor for his non-throne-bond descendants.
Queen Elizabeth also reportedly supported the name change out of love for her husband.
The news comes as a surprise to many, especially after the couple’s recent Spotify deal collapsed.

Meghan has been vocal about her interest in a rebrand, but the idea of changing their surname to Spencer is unexpected.
Some speculate that Meghan may be hoping to inherit the Spencer tiara, but Earl Spencer has made it clear that this is not the case.
He recently posted a cryptic Instagram comment, suggesting that Harry and Meghan are dreaming if they think they’ll ever be welcome into the Spencer genealogy.
Many are questioning the couple’s motives for wanting to change their surname.
Some believe that Meghan is trying to hide her past by reinventing herself, while others see it as a way for the couple to distance themselves from the royal family.
However, not everyone is on board with the idea.
Earl Spencer has made it clear that he does not support the name change, calling it a “cheek” after all the trouble that Harry and Meghan have caused with both of their families.
Many also find it disturbing that the couple continues to push the apparent likeness between Meghan and Diana.
While Diana was no angel, she was known for her class, elegance, and caring nature, traits that many feel Meghan lacks.
It remains to be seen whether Harry and Meghan will actually go through with the name change.
Some speculate that it could be a hint that their titles will be stripped, and they are trying to distance themselves from the royal family.
If they do change their surname to Spencer, it is unlikely to change public perception of the couple, who have been widely criticized for their actions.
In the end, it seems that Harry and Meghan’s desire to rebrand themselves may not be enough to salvage their damaged reputation.
As one commentator put it, they are “almost a laughing stock and certainly a case for derision.”
Whether a change of surname can change that remains to be seen.
