Did Prince Philip regret marrying Queen Elizabeth II?
Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh and husband of Queen Elizabeth II, is known for his frank and often controversial statements.
Despite being in a long-lasting marriage with Queen Elizabeth, he has been known to make shocking comments in the past.
Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth met when Philip was 8 years old and Elizabeth was a young princess.
They didn’t become close until many years later when Philip caught her eye again while he was enrolled in the Royal Naval College.
In 1946, he proposed to her and despite initial opposition from Elizabeth’s father, the couple married and started their life together.

Philip’s role as Consort, however, came with sacrifices. He had to give up his dream of having a career in the navy.
Royal analyst Richard Fitzwilliams explains, “Philip’s role as Consort is far from the role he would ideally have chosen, in the navy he would probably have risen high had not the King’s failing health forced him to terminate a promising career.”
In 1992, when asked about his life, Prince Philip replied, “I’d much rather have stayed in the Navy, frankly.”
This statement raises the question of whether Prince Philip regrets the choices he made and whether he would have been happier with a career in the navy rather than a life as a royal consort.
Despite his reputation for being harsh and critical, Prince Philip’s relationship with Queen Elizabeth has proven to be strong and unique.
They have separate residences and bedrooms, but still maintain a close relationship.
Their body language and small acts of affection towards each other show that Prince Philip’s comment about wishing he had chosen a naval career instead of marrying the queen was likely not serious.
Prince Philip recently retired and is no longer seen making royal appearances as frequently as he used to.
However, his marriage to Queen Elizabeth has been a good decision overall.
The road not taken can always look more appealing, but marrying a British monarch is usually a good choice.
In the end, Prince Philip made the right decision in choosing to marry Queen Elizabeth and start a life as a royal consort.
