Prince William celebrated his 41st birthday this week, and Westminster Abbey marked the occasion by ringing its bells in his honour.

This is the first time the Abbey has rung the bells for William since 2019.

The Prince of Wales and his wife Kate Middleton tied the knot at the Abbey in 2011.

The Abbey bell ringers played 541 changes of Stedman-Caters, followed by a chorus of London’s Prize Royal, to celebrate William’s birthday.

The bells had not been rung for the Prince’s birthday since 2019 due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the financial strain it put on the London landmark.

William held two royal celebrations for his birthday, but he did not invite his brother Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle.

Instead, William invited long-time friends and godparents to his children, Laura Mead and Amelia Jardine-Patterson, to Adelaide Cottage on the Windsor Estate to celebrate the occasion the weekend prior to the big day.

Other royal friends also attended William’s birthday, including Harry Albury-Fletcher, Thomas von Straubenze, Guy Pelly, Christopher and Edmund Cohen.

These are the same people who refused to appear in court to testify for Harry in the recent London trial.

While William was no doubt marking his birthday in private with his royal circle and closest friends, public tributes were shared by members of the royal family online.

The King’s account was one of the first to post with a photo showing William and Charles having a sweet father-son moment during rehearsals for the King’s coronation ceremony earlier this year.

William was seen assisting his father with his ceremonial robes as the pair smiled.

The Abbey’s six-month schedule online shows that the bells will indeed ring for the next royal birthday on Monday the 17th of July, when Queen Camilla turns 76, and for King Charles on Tuesday the 14th of November, when the monarch celebrates his 75th birthday.

The tradition is strictly limited to these four senior royals.

The British royal family failed to publicly acknowledge Princess Lilibet’s second birthday, and Sussex fans were all fired up.

The princess, who is seventh in line to the throne, turned two on Sunday, with parents Prince Harry and Meghan Markle purportedly throwing an all-American party at their home in Monsito, California.

But in Britain, there was silence on the social media accounts of King Charles and of Prince William and Princess Kate, none of whom offered any sweet sentiments to the royal tot.

Westminster Abbey updated its bell ringing schedule for 2022, confirming the change in 2021.

A spokesperson explained that the bell ringing honour would only be reserved for the Queen and Prince Charles going forwards.

However, following Her Majesty’s death in 2022, the tradition was extended to include Prince William, his wife Kate and Queen Camilla.

The publication states that William had a small family gathering with his children at Kensington Palace.

Furthermore, a video of the moment was shared on the Abbey’s official Twitter page with the caption, wishing His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales a very happy birthday today.

In conclusion, Westminster Abbey marked Prince William’s 41st birthday by ringing its bells in his honour.
