When Prince Harry returns to the United States after Prince Philip’s funeral, according to Paul Burrell, he will be experiencing “painful emotions.”

The Duke of Sussex’s latest trip to the UK to attend the funeral of his grandfather, the Duke of Edinburgh, will have left him “totally torn,” and his “heart is now on two sides of the Atlantic.”

In 1987, Paul Burrell entered Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s household, serving as the late princess’s butler until her death in 1997. The Duke of Sussex’s return to the United Kingdom last week, he believes, must have been “extremely difficult” for the royal.

Paul Burrell, who has known Harry since he was three years old, shared his thoughts on the 36-year-old Duke’s return to the UK. Mr Burrell told Closer Magazine that he thinks Harry will be haunted by particular emotions as he returns to the United States.

“Harry will be feeling totally torn.”

“Harry’s world was torn apart when he left the UK and moved to California last year – and now he’s faced with the consequences. And in such devastating circumstances – to commemorate the loss of his grandpa.

Harry’s return to such familiar territories served as a stark reminder of the “decision he’s made” to step down as a senior member of the Royal Family and begin a new life in America with his pregnant partner, Meghan Markle, and their 23-month-old son Archie.

“Being back in the UK, seeing his family – the family he has criticised – is extremely difficult. Seeing his beloved granny, the Queen, and to face his father and brother would not be easy. Even submerging himself back into the House of Windsor and the buildings that hold so many memories.

“The chapel – the same chapel where he married Meghan almost three years ago in very different circumstances. It will have stirred up all kinds of painful emotions for him. He will really have felt the impact of the decision he’s made now and it’ll hit home.”

Returning to the funeral without his wife’s support would have been difficult for Prince Harry, according to the royal insider, particularly after their explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey in early March, which sent shockwaves through the royal family.

On Saturday, Prince Harry attended Prince Philip’s funeral with his family.

Since relocating to the United States with his wife Meghan Markle, the Duke had not returned to the UK in over a year.

Due to “compassionate grounds,” Harry was allowed to fly from the United States to attend the funeral, while adhering to quarantine and safety precautions.

Harry allegedly met with Prince Charles, Prince William, and Duchess Catherine for “clear-the-air talks,” according to Paul.

The 36-year-old royal is said to have met with his father, brother, and sister-in-law to start patching up the rumored rift between them that arose following the tell-all interview last month.

Harry is believed to have hosted his family members at his former home in Frogmore Cottage, where he lived with Meghan before they moved to California last year.

Paul expects that the royals will now work to mend their rift, and he believes that we won’t see any further “critical interviews” from them.

Prior to the funeral, Meghan and Kate Middleton are said to have served as peacemakers between their husbands.

Harry’s wife, who is expecting their first child, was denied medical clearance to attend the funeral and instead watched it from the couple’s home in Santa Barbara, California.

Prince Harry wrote a tribute in honor of his grandfather, praising his “seriously sharp wit” and describing him as “a man of service, honour, and great humour.”
