Prince Harry is reportedly insisting that his wife, Meghan Markle, be included in the official ceremony commemorating the 20th anniversary of Princess Diana’s death.

The Duke of Sussex is scheduled to return to the UK on July 1st to unveil a statue in honor of his late mother at Kensington Palace.

Previous reports indicated that Harry and his brother, Prince William, had jointly approved the statue.

However, tensions have arisen between the brothers following Harry and Meghan’s explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey.

According to gossip website Radar, Harry is now demanding that Meghan be involved in the ceremony to unveil the statue.

Trending:

While Meghan will be unable to attend in person due to the couple’s second child, Harry is pushing for prepared comments from Meghan to be included in the event.

Alternatively, he suggests releasing a video message featuring his wife to the media on the same day as the statue’s unveiling.

A source revealed that Harry may even choose not to attend the event in the UK, considering the chilly reception he received after attending Prince Philip’s funeral.

The negative response from both his family and the media during his brief visit for Prince Philip’s funeral deeply affected Harry.

Consequently, he may decide to withdraw from the upcoming trip altogether.

When the statue commission was announced by William and Harry, they expressed their hopes that it would allow visitors to Kensington Palace to reflect on their mother’s life and legacy.

The statue will be situated in the sunken garden at her former residence.

In a joint statement back in 2017, Harry and William emphasized the need to recognize their mother’s positive impact in the UK and worldwide, stating that it had been 20 years since her passing and that the time was right for a permanent tribute.

They acknowledged the profound influence their mother had on countless lives and expressed their desire for the statue to serve as a means for visitors to Kensington Palace to reflect on her life and legacy.

It is worth noting that Meghan and Harry officially stepped back from their roles as senior royals on March 31st of last year.

They initially relocated to Canada and later settled in Los Angeles when the US implemented lockdown measures due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
