The unexpected appearance of the Prince and Princess of Wales at Royal Ascot on Friday was met with great enthusiasm from the public.

The royal couple were seen holding hands and enjoying themselves in the royal box as they watched the races.

Social media users were quick to express their support for the two women, with many commenting on their friendship.

The Princess of Wales stood out in her bright Alexander McQueen red dress, which came with a matching red Philip Treacy hat, as well as a brand-new pair of Jennifer Tremandi Lorenzo 105 red suede pumps.

The Duchess of Edinburgh looked equally stunning in a light pink dress from Susanna London, one of her favourite designers.

The dress is from the brand’s most recent collection and costs $2,390.

The Prince and Princess of Wales were not the only senior royals in attendance, as King Charles and Queen Camilla, as well as Kate and Sophie, were also present.

The royal procession’s carriages received warm applause from the crowd, but it was the unexpected presence of the Prince and Princess of Wales that won over the audience’s hearts.

Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mosi joined the couple in the second carriage.

The King and Queen had been filled with emotion the day before as they had won the festival for the first time.

The King and Queen watched from the royal box as Tom Markwend rode Desert Wind to victory in the King George V stakes.

Charles appeared obviously moved when he claimed his first victory, hoping to emulate his mother, Queen Elizabeth Ewe, who amassed over 24 victories at the event during her reign.

As the horse neared the finish line, photos of him in an open-mouthed position and in tears were taken.

As the mare ran down the last stretch, Camilla was just as excited, cheering and making worried faces.

The Prince and Princess of Wales were seen applauding the horses and laughing together, appearing cheerful and at ease.

Social media users who follow the royal family expressed their support for the photo of the two women watching horses while holding hands.

One user said, “I love these two,” while another wrote, “Besties.”

A third user exclaimed, “Catherine and Sophie, I love this love story.”
