Outspoken journalist Piers Morgan, who famously quit Good Morning Britain after a heated row about the Duchess of Sussex, has surprisingly thanked Meghan Markle following his recent win at the 2023 Trick Awards.

Accepting the Interview of the Year Award, the 58-year-old journalist sarcastically praised Meghan Markle, much to the amusement of the audience, which included A-listers such as Oprah.

An insider described Morgan’s speech as one of the best and most satisfying moments of the event.

Referring to his feud with the Duchess of Sussex, Morgan expressed his gratitude, saying, “I want to thank Meghan Markle because if you think about it, without her contribution to my career, I would never have gone into talk TV.

I would never have received this award.”

Trending:

After stepping down from Good Morning Britain, Morgan landed his own news program on Rupert Murdoch’s Talk TV in April last year.

His world-exclusive interview with football legend Cristiano Ronaldo earned him the Trick Award this year.

Former BBC Breakfast rival Dan Walker presented the award to Morgan, who humorously remarked, “To my utter joy, I was presented with it by Dan Walker, my former Breakfast television rival from BBC Breakfast.

He was the man who, on my last day at Good Morning Britain, I managed to beat in the ratings for the first time.

Unfortunately, due to my departure, he was never able to reclaim the title.”

During his acceptance speech, Morgan also shared a personal message he sent to Cristiano Ronaldo after the ceremony.

He revealed, “I texted Cristiano in the car on the way home, and you can always tell when Cristiano is really happy with you as he uses the word top.

He went, top top, you’re the man, top top.”

Clearly, Morgan holds Ronaldo in high regard and credits him for the success of the interview that led to his award.

In addition to his ongoing feud with Meghan Markle, Piers Morgan has also faced criticism from Prince Harry.

The prince accused Morgan of horrific personal attacks in a statement at the High Court.

Morgan, who was the editor of the Daily Mirror between 1995 and 2004, responded by saying he hadn’t seen any of Harry’s comments but wished him luck in his privacy campaign.

It is worth noting that Morgan and Prince Harry were once on good terms, with Morgan even mentioning their positive relationship during an interview on RTE’s Late Late Show in 2019.

However, things quickly turned sour after Meghan Markle entered the picture, with Meghan accusing Morgan of being ghosted by the Duchess.

Despite the ongoing controversies, Piers Morgan remains an influential figure in the world of journalism.

His recent award and sarcastic gratitude towards Meghan Markle have once again thrust him into the spotlight, leaving many wondering what his next move will be.
