Meghan and Harry’s Hollywood Dream Falters as Netflix and Spotify Deals Come to an End

It seems that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s big dream of conquering Hollywood with their star power and royal connections has been undermined by a lack of substance, according to the Wall Street Journal.

The couple’s recent deals with Netflix and Spotify have come to a premature end, with executives reportedly underwhelmed by their lack of productivity and ideas.

The production of Meghan’s Archetypes podcast was fraught with difficulties over securing the right guests, and the Duchess often asked for late changes.

Actual employees and associates had admitted the company often lacked direction, and the couple at times seemed surprised by the work required to finish entertainment projects.

Most potential initiatives, they said, follow a similar route – big idea, subpar execution.

It’s alleged that Meghan wrote a personal letter to Taylor Swift, asking her to appear on Archetypes, but that the singer declined through a representative.

Before that, there was a rumour that Kensington Palace Guard’s opinion about the Sussex duo even discussed Taylor Swift 18 months ago.

Harry in particular struggled to land on an idea, the newspaper added of the Spotify deal.

The couple have had multiple ideas rejected by Netflix, which is said to be unlikely to renew its deal when it expires in 2025.

The proposed projects by the Duke and Duchess are said to have included a sitcom likened to the hit show Emily in Paris, but about a man, and a family-friendly show about gay characters that felt similar to the popular coming-of-age drama Heartstopper.

Netflix is said to have turned down both.

Instead of investing in Meghan, Netflix decided to choose Lawrence for the new rom-com project, and the results turned out to be better than expected.

Jennifer Lawrence veered into a new and unexpected direction – edgy comedy.

Enter No Hard Feelings out this summer, Lawrence’s first foray into the genre, and of course it received a very good response.

Netflix was praised for being of sound mind for not putting its trust in the Harkles.

Now Meghan and Harry are reportedly developing a show for Netflix called Bad Manners, based on the Miss Havisham character from Great Expectations.

It’s described as a prequel to the Charles Dickens novel that recasts the lonely spinster as a strong woman, living in a patriarchal society.

It’s not known whether it’s been commissioned by Netflix or not.

Despite following a path forged by Barack and Michelle Obama, who’ve been hugely productive and successful, the Sussexes appear to have failed to live up to the mark.

Netflix executives are said to have grumbled about Archival’s output, fearing that their six-part Harry and Meghan documentary released in December was all they had to offer.

The couple announced earlier this month that their $20 million Spotify deal had come to a premature end, having produced just one series of Meghan’s 12-part Archetypes podcast and a short holiday special.

Talks had happened but eventually stalled long before Spotify opted not to renew.

As the Wall Street Journal points out, the Sussexes didn’t follow all of the terms of their deal with Spotify either.

This includes a project with Prince Harry involved, initially exploring a show about veterans, then pitching a podcast on subjects like misinformation, his own perspective of living in America and even co-hosting a show with Hassan Minhaj.

Meghan snubbed an invitation to appear on the Duchess of Sussex’s Archetypes podcast, leaving fans disappointed.

The production of the podcast was fraught with difficulties over securing the right guests, and the Duchess often asked for late changes, according to the Wall Street Journal.
