The search for the missing Titanic sub has caught the attention of King Charles, who is receiving regular updates on the situation.

One of those on board is a key supporter of two of his charities, The Prince’s Trust International and The British Asian Trust.

Shahzada Dawood and his son Sulaiman are both missing on the submersible Titan, which disappeared on Sunday around 435 miles south of St. John’s, Newfoundland.

According to Canada’s Joint Rescue Coordination Center, the loss of the sub sparked an international rescue effort with the search extending across an area larger than the US state of Connecticut.

Mr. Dawood is one of five people on board the vessel, which now has less than 40 hours of oxygen left, according to the US Coast Guard.

King Charles has asked to be kept fully up to date on the situation and his thoughts and prayers are with the Dawood family and all those involved in the incident and attempted recovery operations.

Shahzada Dawood is also on the board of trustees for the California-based SETI Institute, which searches for extraterrestrial intelligence.

The Dawoods live in the UK, according to SETI.

He is a member of the Global Advisory Board at the Prince’s Trust International, founded by King Charles III to address youth unemployment.

Also on board the Titan are OceanGate Inc. founder Stockton Rush, British billionaire Hamish Harding, and French diver Paul-Henry Nargeolet.

Mr. Nargeolet is a former French navy officer who is considered a Titanic expert after making multiple trips to the wreckage over several decades.

David Gallo, a senior adviser for strategic initiatives and special projects at RMS Titanic, said in an interview with CNN that Mr. Nargeolet was on board.

He is director of underwater research for E/M Group and RMS Titanic Inc., and has completed 37 dives to the wreck and supervised the recovery of 5,000 artefacts, according to his company profile.

While at the French Institute for Research and Exploitation of Sea, he led the first recovery expedition to the Titanic in 1987.

Mr. Harding is a billionaire adventurer who holds three Guinness World Records, including the longest duration at full ocean depth by a crewed vessel.

In March 2021, he and ocean explorer Victor Vescovo dived to the lowest depth of the Mariana Trench.

In June 2022, he went into space on Blue Origin’s New Shepard rocket.

Private jet firm Action Aviation said in a statement: “Both the Harding family and the team at Action Aviation are very grateful for all the kind messages of concern and support from our friends and colleagues.”

In a Facebook post on Saturday, Mr. Harding said he was proud to be part of the mission given the weather might make another trip to the wreck unlikely this year.

The situation remains critical as the search for the missing sub continues, and King Charles will undoubtedly be keeping a close eye on developments.

The fact that one of his key supporters is on board adds a personal dimension to the story, and it is hoped that the operation to find the sub and those on board will be successful.

The loss of the Titan sub has shocked the world, and the international rescue effort serves as a reminder of the risks involved in deep-sea exploration.

It is a complex and dangerous enterprise, but one that is driven by an insatiable desire to learn more about our planet and its history.

The involvement of high-profile individuals like Shahzada Dawood and Hamish Harding underscores the importance of this work and the impact it can have on our understanding of the world around us.
