Jonah Hill Asks Fans to Stop Talking About His Body, Period: “It’s Not Helpful”
Jonah Hill, an Oscar nominee, wants the public to know that his body should not be a topic of conversation.
On Wednesday, the 37-year-old actor, whose weight has changed over the years and with his many movie roles, posted the statement to Instagram.
Hill wrote to his 3.1 million followers on Wednesday, “I know you mean well, but I kindly ask that you not comment on my body.”
He went on to say that anyone who doesn’t see why he has an issue with it, especially if they applaud his weight reduction, strength training, or whatever other adjustments he’s done, should listen to him.
“Good or bad, I want you to politely let you know it’s not helpful and doesn’t feel good. Much respect.”

Hill’s post received a flood of support from his renowned fans, including younger sister Beanie Feldstein. Feldstein said in the comments, “THATS MY BROTHER,” while SZA said, “Absolutely Love you. Thank you !!”
Hill has been open about the work he’s doing to love and embrace his body in recent months, revealing that it’s a process that will take him until his mid- to late-thirties. In February, a British newspaper published images of him enjoying a day of surfing while also body shaming him. Hill proudly posted the photos to Instagram, writing in the caption that he didn’t take off his shirt to swim until he was in his mid-thirties, and that it “probably would have happened sooner if my childhood insecurities weren’t exacerbated by years of public mockery about my body by press and interviewers.”
“So the idea that the media tries to play me by stalking me while surfing and printing photos like this and it can’t phase me anymore is dope.
“I’m 37 and finally love and accept myself. This isn’t a ‘good for me’ post.
“And it’s definitely not a ‘feel bad for me post’. It’s for the the kids who don’t take their shirt off at the pool. Have fun. You’re wonderful and awesome and perfect. All my love,” Hill added.
“Oh and Daily Mail, not even you can take that smile from my face ;).”
Hill admitted earlier this year that some of his issues came from being criticised for his weight as a child. In August, the actor told GQ, “The two gnarliest environments are skateboarding and comedy, and I grew up in both of those environments. I was an insecure, overweight kid, which in both of those communities is like having a scarlet letter on you. You are a target for abuse.”
Hill debuted a new tattoo in August honoring his commitment to body positivity and self-love.
“Body Love,” reads the fresh tattoo on his back, which features a design that resembles the Body Glove water sports gear company’s emblem.
