Harry Stripped of State Role for Losing UK Domicile, Replaced by Eugene

Prince Harry’s loss of his official UK base, Frogmore Cottage, has resulted in him being stripped of another royal role.

As a consequence of no longer having a home in the country, Harry can no longer serve as a councillor of state in the event that King Charles is unable to fulfill his duties as monarch.

Yesterday marked the deadline for the Sussexes to vacate their Windsor property, with their belongings now en route to their new residence in Monsito, California.

With no British abode, they will have to rely on hotels or the hospitality of friends during any future visits to the UK.

The absence of a UK residence not only affects their living situation but also has significant implications for Harry’s royal responsibilities.

    Losing his UK home without a replacement is a major setback for him.

    A Royal Expert highlighted that the most significant consequence is that Harry can no longer act as a councillor of state, a privilege he still held despite no longer being a working royal.

    Unfortunately, this opportunity has now slipped away due to the lack of a UK residence.

    King Charles seems to show little interest in addressing this issue, particularly when considering the replacement candidate, Eugene.

    The King has already altered the rules regarding councillors of state, making Harry’s role increasingly irrelevant.

    This was merely the initial step towards completely removing him from the position.

    To qualify as a councillor of state, certain criteria must be met.

    Candidates must be British subjects of legal age, 21 years or 18 years for the heir apparent or presumptive, and must be domiciled in the United Kingdom without any disqualifications from ascending to the throne.

    If residing abroad, it is mandatory to maintain a UK residence to retain COS status.

    Now that Frogmore Cottage is no longer in their possession, Harry is officially a full-time resident of the United States.

    The previous councillors of state included Queen Camilla, the Prince of Wales, the Duke of Sussex, the Duke of York, and Princess Beatrice.

    Last year, Charles proposed the inclusion of his other siblings, Princess Anne and Prince Edward, to the list.

    The King’s decision to evict Meghan and Harry from Frogmore Cottage, a property they had renovated with £2.4 million of taxpayer money but only occupied for six months, came shortly after Harry criticized his family in his book, Spare.

    The cottage, which is owned by the Crown Estate, served as their last remaining foothold in the UK.

    Currently, the couple resides in California.

    Prince Harry has faced accusations of embellishing details in his controversial book, particularly when it comes to the use of nicknames.

    In one section of Spare, Harry refers to Sir Edward Young, Sir Clive Alderton, and Simon Case without using their actual names.

    Instead, he assigns them insect-related monikers like Bee, Fly, and Wasp.

    Royal Correspondent Valentin Lowe described the portrayal of these three individuals as unflattering.

    In an updated paperback version of his book, Courtiers, Lowe noted that although Harry did not explicitly identify them, it was not difficult to discern their identities.

    The book’s references to government and media as “offal” and “wormy entrails” seem more reminiscent of J.R. Moringa, who held a similar role, rather than the Prince himself.

    In summary, Prince Harry’s loss of Frogmore Cottage as his UK base has resulted in the forfeiture of his role as a councillor of state.
