Prince Harry said he felt “really let down” by his father on Sunday, when he and his wife Meghan discussed leaving Britain due to her unfair coverage by the British press and the royal family’s lack of support.

During a two-hour CBS interview with the pair, celebrity interviewer Oprah Winfrey questioned Harry about his relationship with Prince Charles after they came to the United States.

“You know, there’s a lot to go on there. I’m sad because he’s been through something similar. Harry, who was clearly shaken, said, “He knows what pain feels like.”

He went on to say that the heir to the throne, Charles, and Harry’s older brother, William, were “trapped” by monarchical conventions, but that he would “always love” his father.

“My father and brother are trapped. They are not permitted to leave. And for that, I have a great deal of sympathy.”

Prince Harry said he has sought to make his brother, Prince William, “see what has happened,” but that he “will always be there” for him as long as he is stuck in the royal family’s “toxic” lifestyle.

Despite long-running speculation that a rivalry with his 38-year-old brother was one of Megxit’s key reasons, Harry talked warmly of his brother and shared his “compassion” for him always being “trapped.”

The 36-year-old Duke of Sussex said in a new clip from his Oprah Winfrey interview that aired early Monday that leaving the royal family “hurt” him because he was “part of the system with them, I always have been.”

“But … I’m very aware of this — my brother can’t leave that system. But I have ,” Harry told Oprah in the CBS This Morning segment.

When Oprah questioned whether he was saying that William tried to “quit the scheme,” Harry replied flatly, “I don’t know — I can’t speak for him.”

The Duke of Sussex said that his father, Prince Charles, was also “trapped” in the royal institution, and that he had “tried to help” his brother and father “to see what had happened.”

“He’s had to make peace with it,” Harry said when asked why his father put up with such a “toxic environment.”
