The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, have bid farewell to Frogmore Cottage after being served an eviction notice by King Charles earlier this year.

The five-bedroom residence, located on the Windsor Estate, had been left vacant, according to Sir Michael Stevens, the keeper of the Prevy purse.

Amidst speculations that the King might offer the cottage to his embattled brother, Prince Andrew, as a downsizing option from his seven-bedroom Royal Lodge mansion, a senior royal advisor clarified that no decision has been made regarding the next occupant of the house.

Previously divided into flats for workers, the conversion of Frogmore Cottage into a home for Harry and Meghan incurred a cost of £2.4 million, funded by British taxpayers.

However, after stepping back from their royal duties, the couple reached an agreement that allowed them to repay the expenses through a contract, which also included rent payments for several years.

As for whether the Sussexes have managed to recover any of the funds following their eviction, it remains unclear.

Sir Michael, the King’s top financial advisor, confirmed their departure from Frogmore Cottage but refrained from providing further details about the arrangements.

However, it is worth noting that the couple’s compensation for the repair costs has significantly enhanced the Crown’s assets, as previously mentioned.

Frogmore Cottage, acquired by Queen Victoria in the 19th century, forms part of the occupied Royal Palace estate, supported by taxpayers’ money.

Meanwhile, Prince Andrew holds a 75-year lease on the 30-room Royal Lodge from the independent Crown Estate and intends to carry out renovations in the upcoming months.

According to available information, the Prince is reportedly adamant about not vacating the property he shares with his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York.

A source revealed to OKA magazine earlier this year that Andrew is determined to remain at Royal Lodge for the duration of his lease, indicating he will put up a fight and resist moving to Frogmore Cottage.

Following their departure from the Royal family, Harry and Meghan relocated to their Montecito residence in the United States, where they now reside with their two children, four-year-old Prince Archie and two-year-old Princess Lilibet.

However, during a recent three-day visit, Prince Harry allegedly spent three nights at Frogmore Cottage, as the couple had previously used it as their base in the UK.

It is worth mentioning that Harry and Meghan, along with their children, stayed at Frogmore Cottage during the Platinum Jubilee celebrations last June.
