On Thursday night, Ariana Grande rushed to Pete Davidson’s defense, reminding a critic of her fiancé’s long-term fight with Crohn’s disease.

The singer took to Twitter on Friday to comment on an article headlined ‘Does Pete Davidson Have Butthole Eyes?’, stating that he suffers from an autoimmune disorder that affects his appearance, particularly his eyes.

“Y’all do kno this man has an auto immune disease …… right?” she tweeted. “….. like you do understand what you’re doing when u do this right ? jus wanna make sure.”

On Friday, Chaps, the original article’s author, published another essay in which he (sorta) apologized to anyone he may have upset.

“Pete Davidson’s eyes look like buttholes. Some people have taken that as an insult,” his post read. “It wasn’t meant to be. In fact, many would say that it’s a compliment. Moreover, I even said I’m sorry if this offends in the original blog.”

In an interview with High Times in October 2016, the comic discussed his ailment. He said at the time, “I got Crohn’s disease when I was 17 or 18. And I found that medicines that the doctors were prescribing me and seeing all these doctors and trying new things … weed would be the only thing that would help me eat.”

He added: “My stomach would be in pain all day and I wouldn’t be able to eat, but then I’d smoke and I can eat and do my shows.”

According to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation, Crohn’s disease is a chronic inflammatory illness of the intestines, particularly the colon and ileum, that is linked with ulcers and fistulae. Crohn’s disease is a chronic condition that has times of flare-ups and symptoms, followed by periods of remission during which the patient may not have any symptoms at all.

The disease’s cause is unclear. While food and stress were originally considered to be factors, it was shown that they just actually exacerbated the condition. If a family member has Crohn’s disease, you’re more likely to have it, and a virus or bacteria might set it off. According to the Mayo Clinic, “When your immune system tries to fight off the invading microorganism, an abnormal immune response causes the immune system to attack the cells in the digestive tract, too.”

The comedian admitted that Ariana makes him a “very, very happy boy”
