Sophie, Countess of Wessex, is anticipated to be bestowed with the title of Duchess of Edinburgh.

The 57-year-old, who is married to Prince Edward, the Queen’s youngest son, had a close bond with her late mother-in-law, even referring to the monarch as “Mama.”

Since the Queen’s passing, the Countess has been seen attending various memorial services, appearing somber and tearful.

Now, it is believed that Edward, aged 58, may inherit his late father Prince Philip’s former title, Duke of Edinburgh, following his mother’s demise, consequently making Sophie a duchess.

Initially, the title was inherited by Charles, who has since ascended to the throne as King.

The decision regarding the transfer of the title now rests in the hands of the new monarch, as per sources.

Prince Philip had expressed his desire for Edward to inherit his title when the time came, and King Charles III has reportedly agreed to honor this request.

Presently, Edward is the only one among the Queen’s sons without a dukedom.

While it is believed that Charles will fulfill his late father’s wish, Edward has previously expressed doubts about the matter.

He stated to the BBC, “It was fine in theory, ages ago when it was sort of a pipe dream of my father’s… Of course, it will depend on whether or not the Prince of Wales, when he becomes King, whether he’ll do that, so we’ll wait and see.

So yes, it will be quite a challenge taking that on.”

Edward and Sophie have been observed attending several memorial services for the Queen, during which Sophie was seen providing comfort to her sister-in-law, Princess Annette.

One touching moment occurred as the family watched the Queen’s coffin being carried into the Palace of Hollerood House in Edinburgh on Sunday.

The Queen’s children and their spouses stood in solemn silence as soldiers from the Royal Regiment of Scotland transported the coffin to the Palace’s throne room.

Subsequently, the Queen’s coffin was brought to Buckingham Palace, where several senior royals awaited her arrival.

Among those present were the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, King Charles III, the Prince and Princess of Wales, Queen Consort Camilla, Princess Anne, Prince Edward, Sir Tim Lawrence, and Sophie Wessex.

Additionally, Princess Beatrice and Edomopeli Motsi, Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank, as well as Zara Phillips and Mike Tindall, accompanied their family at the Palace.

With the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, numerous members of the royal family have been bestowed with new titles.

Prince Charles has ascended to become King Charles III, while his wife, Camilla, has assumed the title of Queen Consort.

Prince William and Kate Middleton are now known as the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and Cambridge, with the possibility of becoming the Prince and Princess of Wales in the future.

Even the young children of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, three-year-old Archie and one-year-old Lilibet, have been granted the titles of Prince and Princess following their grandfather’s ascension to the throne.

However, it is unlikely that Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, will receive any additional titles.

The couple stepped back from their roles as senior members of the royal family in early 2020.

Although they still retain their Duke and Duchess titles, Harry and Meghan no longer utilize their HRH designations.

Nevertheless, there is a possibility that King Charles may choose to revoke the newly acquired titles from his grandchildren.

During an interview with Oprah Winfrey last year, Meghan revealed that discussions within the royal family had taken place regarding changing the rules to prevent Archie from receiving the princely title.
