Princess Catherine made a grand entrance on June 20th as she stepped out to attend the reopening of the National Portrait Gallery in London.

After three years of extensive renovations, the gallery finally opened its doors to the public once again.

However, it was revealed that Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, does not have any portraits featured in the gallery’s collection.

Among the seven pictures displayed, Meghan appears in only one, although technically six, as two of them are duplicates.

This lack of individual portrayal is not surprising, considering her status as a non-royal.

Without her ties to the royal family, she is perceived as having little significance.

In contrast, 12 out of the 19 pictures of Princess Diana depict her alone, showcasing her as an individual.

It is worth mentioning that both the Waleses and the Sussexes’ wedding portraits are included in the collection.

Interestingly, renowned fashion photographer Mario Testino captured the Waleses on camera, just as he frequently did with Diana.

On the other hand, the Sussexes’ pictures were taken by Alexei Lubomirsky, a photographer who may not be as well-known.

Princess Catherine has maintained a strong relationship with the National Portrait Gallery since the beginning of her royal journey.

Within a year of marrying Prince William, she became a royal patron of the gallery.

Three years ago, Catherine collaborated with the gallery on a project that documented the British people’s experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This partnership resulted in the publication of “Hold Still,” a collection of portraits representing the nation in 2020.

In the forward of the book, the Princess of Wales, who is also an enthusiastic amateur photographer, wrote about the challenges faced during the pandemic.

She emphasized the importance of capturing individuals’ stories and significant moments for families and communities.

Her hope was that the images would serve as a lasting record of this extraordinary period in history and pay tribute to the efforts of those who worked tirelessly to protect others.

Meanwhile, tensions between Prince William and Prince Harry continue to grow, leading to the removal of a painting from the Royal Gallery at the National Portrait Gallery.

The portrait, painted by Nicky Phillips and unveiled in 2010, depicted the brothers proudly donning their military uniforms while looking at each other.

This artwork was created before reported issues arose between the two and before Prince Harry’s decision to step back from his role as a working royal alongside Meghan Markle.

Both Kensington Palace and the National Portrait Gallery clarified that the painting was not taken down due to any request from the royal family.

A spokesperson for the gallery stated that decisions regarding the portraits on display are made by the curatorial team.

The reopening of the National Portrait Gallery marks an important milestone for art enthusiasts and admirers of the royal family alike.

With Catherine’s continued support and involvement, the gallery will undoubtedly continue to be a significant cultural institution for years to come.
