Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge, turned 41 on June 21st, and received a heartfelt message from his father, King Charles III, on social media.

The message was accompanied by a rare photo of William and Charles III during the coronation rehearsal, which took place on May 6th.

In the photo, taken by the British royal family’s personal photographer Chris Jackson, William can be seen smiling broadly as he fastens the monarch’s coronation robe.

The caption to the photo reads, “We wish the Prince of Wales a happy birthday.”

This photo perfectly captures William’s special role at the coronation ceremony, where he was the only member of the royal family tasked with paying tribute to the king.

King Charles III reversed the tradition that all royal dukes knelt to pay their respects, before touching the crown and kissing the monarch on the right cheek.

During the oath of office, the heir to the throne also made a solemn pledge.

“I, William, Prince of Wales, swear my allegiance to you and will serve you faithfully as your vassal, here and in heaven.

May God help me.”

The congratulatory message to Prince William is in line with the recent decision that only working members of the royal family receive public birthday greetings on social media.

The rule is believed to have been introduced last year, which resulted in non-working members of the royal family being prevented from receiving public birthday greetings.

Prince William is celebrating his first birthday as Prince of Wales today, having been given the title since the death of Queen Elizabeth II last September.

The prince was first congratulated on social media by his father, King Charles III, and Queen Camilla.
